I noticed that there is a problem with the Technical News Forum. Sometime within the last three days all 75 posts in the most recent thread, Hot Day (Oct 02 2012), have been deleted. When you look at it, http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=69594, there is nothing there! I checked a few of the other threads and they seem ok, but I didn't check all of them. If possible, will you please restore those posts for us. p.s. I hope this isn't indicative of a larger problem. |

All 75 are still visible here. |

Thanks, Richard and James. Now, my question is, why can I no longer see any of these on my computer? Is there some flag or button I am not aware of that I might have accidentally activated? I have no problems with any other threads in any of the forums, and I look at a lot. Please help, as I have never seen this before. Thanks! :) |

Are You using Google Chrome? I can't see messages when using Chrome, but in IE and Firefox I can see them. Strange... "Please keep Your signature under four lines so Internet traffic doesn't go up too much" - In 1992 when I had my first e-mail address - |

I was using IE last time, but I can see them with Chrome as well. Edit - for those who can't see the posts, is there any sign of an incomplete page load - like a missing bottom navigation bar or copyright line? |

Are You using Google Chrome? Whoa, problem is not in browser... Well maybe. I do have preference "Sort oldest first". No messages. When I change it to "Newest first" or "Highest rated posts first" all messages are visible. This happens in all three browsers. Even more strange.... Are You using Google Chrome? I was just about to try the same test, with one extra message. I have the setting at '25 messages per page', so maybe an exact number of pages triggers the fault? I'm asking a mod to (temporarily) hide your test post, so we can see what happens then (I can see all posts when there are 76 in the thread). |

Are You using Google Chrome? I always use oldest first. I had no issues before or after your test message when using using IE, FF, or Chrome. The page could have been cached at a point between you and the server. Changing the sort order might have requested new information and updated what you see. If you suspect a cached page you can often add &? to the end of an address to see if that fixes the issue. Interesting 75 is some kind of magic number. Once that 76th post was hidden. I also limited my view to 25. I was presented with a a blank page and page number 1 2 3. none of which were selected. I'm asking a mod to (temporarily) hide your test post, so we can see what happens then (I can see all posts when there are 76 in the thread). With my 25 posts per page, exactly 75 messages in the thread, and sort order set (unusual for me) to oldest first, the thread opened to a blank page with header, footer, but no messages in between - I guess that matches your view? There were, however, links for pages 1, 2, 3 - and when I clicked on those, the relevant sets of 25 posts appeared. Now, with your message unhidden again to make 76 visible messages, the thread opens correctly with just your post visible on a page by itself. How many posts do you see per page? (Community preferences, 'message display' section, 'Display this many messages per page'). I believe the default might be 75, which may be significant. |

Also I found an old locked thread with 75 messages that could be used for testing this odd occurrence. http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=66377 EDIT: Using the values of 1, 5, 25, or 75 present this issue. Also I found an old locked thread with 75 messages that could be used for testing this odd occurrence. Nice one. And 15. Edit - that sounds like enough for a bug report? |

Also I found an old locked thread with 75 messages that could be used for testing this odd occurrence. Actually with the value of 1 this will occur on any thread where you have read all of the messages. I was also able to match threads with 44 & 357 posts to get a blank page. Yep it has nice sounds for bug report. |

Also I found an old locked thread with 75 messages that could be used for testing this odd occurrence. And presumably, any thread where the post count exactly matches the user's current 'posts per page' setting. Should we propose a new forum rule: "every thread must have a prime number of posts at all times"? ;) |

Also I found an old locked thread with 75 messages that could be used for testing this odd occurrence. I only get a blank page if I have "read" all of the messages already. So maybe it is by design. "You have read everything here. Nothing new to see." It does still occur with "Jump to first new post in thread automatically" disabled.
