I have been wondering wht happens of I wish to or need to manually Shut Down (Turn Off) my Computer for any reason. I have Used the Option in the Start button menu which SAVES The Session and turns Off Computer, then Automatically Restores It when it's Turned On again. But what about if I just use the Loog Off and turn Off Options in the Start Menu. Will I just need to Click The Boing Icon to OPEN Boing Manager and Continue as normal? ... Also, Do I Need To SUSPEND Tasks Before I LOG OFF and/or SHUT DOWN? ... Also, what happens if My PC Restarts Automatically after Receiving Automatic Updates. GALAXY-VOYAGER |

Just shut down the computer. BOINC & SH@ will manage the data for you, and when you restart all will be as it was just before you shut-down. Trying to do "clever" things will cause BOINC and/or S@H to get things wrong and cause confusion when you restart. S@H, but not all projects, has a checkpoint. If you shutdown crash or any other way turn off BOINC or stop the processes, the S@H processes will restart at their latest checkpoint when you restart the computer. I'm not certain if logging off will turn off BOINC but I know if the account locks after a certain timelimit the BOINC Processes will still run. there is no need to suspend or do anything special when shutting down your Computer as I previously mentioned In a rich man's house there is no place to spit but his face. Okay thanks. I was afraid that if I just Log Off or Shut Down without at least Suspending the project or task, it would be similar to doing so with a Program such as WORD Still Open, and that it might cause an error in Processing. You mentioned that Not All Projects have a Checkpoint. Would it be any benefit to Suspend Any Other Projects besides S@H just as a Precaution? GALAXY-VOYAGER |

If the project doesnt do a checkpoint most probably wont do it neither when the task is suspended, so no matter what you do, if the task was no finished it will be canceled and started over from the beggining when you turn on your computer. Your only option in that case is to wait until all the tasks in projects finish before shuting down the computer... By the way, AFAIK, all the projects that you are attached to, do the checkpoints... |

yes there are several BOINC projects out there that do not have check points so you could lose hours of work if you restart your computer or turn off boinc In a rich man's house there is no place to spit but his face. Diogenes Of Sinope |

SETI allows you to configure the time-intervall for a checkpoint / write results to disk. Tools -> Computing Preferences (Menu) -> Disk and Memory usage (Tab). |

SETI allows you to configure the time-intervall for a checkpoint / write results to disk. Tools -> Computing Preferences (Menu) -> Disk and Memory usage (Tab). No, its the Boinc Manager GUI thats allowing you to set the lower limit for checkpointing, Not Seti, you can also set it any of your projects on the computing preferences pages, Note: the wording is 'Tasks checkpoint to disk at most every 60 seconds', apps like the OpenCL Astropulse app only checkpoint every 0.9%, changing the preference won't make it do checkpoints more often, Claggy |

Could this be related to an excessive temperature problem? |
