Screen savers are often very processor intensive.
There are two possible solutions
First, don't use a screen saver but a blank screen
Second, in the BOINC manager advanced/preferances select the processor usage tab and set "while processor is in use" box to something a lot higher than the default 25% - I use 75%, others may well suggest a different value, and you may need to give it a few tries to get it to a level that you can live with.

if you don't mind having seti run in the background while you are doing stuff on your computer just set the % to "0" and it will just run fine. also note that your GPU shouldn't be used for GPU processing of MB task and can only use the Brooks hybrid app if you decide to run Astropulse WU's.

The screen saver shouldn't be used if you are intending to use the GPU for processing work

When using the global web-preferences...

Go to your account (available from the menu bar at the top and bottom of these forum pages).
- Next click on When and how BOINC uses your computer Computing preferences
- Scroll all the way down, click the Edit preferences button.
- On option Suspend work when non-BOINC CPU usage is above input value 0 (zero).
- Scroll all the way down, click Update preferences.
- Open BOINC Manager, (if in Simple view go to Advanced view (CTRL+SHIFT+A)), Projects tab, Select Seti@Home, click Update.
-- If preferenced to return to Simple View, press CTRL+SHIFT+V.

Done.

When using the BOINC Advanced local preferences...

Open BOINC Manager, (Advanced view), Tools, Computing preferences.
This opens on:

For the option of While computer usage is less than X percent (0 means no restriction) fill in 0 (zero). Click OK, the option will be used immediately.

Also Done.

See http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Local_preferences#Advanced_view for all Advanced view preference options.
