49 percent of Americans live in households that receive some form of government benefits...based on data from 2010...A significant proportion of government assistance comes in the form of Social Security and Medicare...“means-tested†programs, such as food stamps, Medicaid, and housing assistance, around 35 percent They are entitlements as long as they are funded with Ponzi Scheme level funding. Now if an actuary calculated the funding level year to year and the contributions for a year matched that calculation, then you could call them a pension and insurance, until then, Ponzi Scheme entitlement is the correct label. |

If I understand the way it was setup, That money we (volunteerd) was never meant to be put used or put in the general fund. It was for social security only. Just like our SS number was never to be used as ID. Ive seen some people use the term that Americans dont have to carry a national ID . Well an SS card is that ID. I ask any politician perusing this forum. If you can fund stupid wars to the tune of trillions of dollars why cant you make SS solvent? Why cant you just pay back all the money you have ripped out of SS over the years to pay for stupid wars? Just give SS one trillion dollars and lets see hpw that works out over the next 50 years. And as far as an entitlement, Gary as long as I have to pay into the ponzi scheme its my damn right to get back what I stinking put in. [/quote] Old James |

It's not intended to. The college, being based on the number of congresspeople (both Representatives and Senators) a state sends to DC is deliberately skewed to favor low population states. As the President is executive leader of a federation of states, it's the states that decide who will hold the office. Bobby is correct on this one. And it is not the State Governors that have the power to appoint the Presidential electors. That power is given to the State legislatures ONLY. And as the US Constitution requires the several State governments to be Republics, just as it does the Federal government, where is the problem? The People, after all, voted for 'their' members of their state's legislature, just as they vote for 'their' members of Congress. Where is the problem? https://youtu.be/iY57ErBkFFE #Texit Don't blame me, I voted for Johnson(L) in 2016. Truth is dangerous... especially when it challenges those in power. |

It has been my experience, at least in the SF Bay area, that crazy-busy people lean left. Or at least independent! Sure have to wonder about a few that have time to post so much, eh? |

And before you give me any ####, just remember that about 48% of the US voters agree with ME, you damned, ignorant, snotty liberals. +1. And he and so many have so much figuring out who the true liberals are. |

Back to the subject of the thread (not gonna touch the racist stuff). Sorry I am a few days late posting this, but I've been busy. I also voted. I voted early on the second or third day of early voting. I had to drop off some library books I read to my kids, and the early voting location was in that building, so why not. The more I think about the results of the Federal races, the more I can see only one mandate possible. The collective Will of the People voted to preserve a Republican majority in the House, a Democrat majority in the Senate, and to retain the current occupant of the White House (a Democrat). The mandate was for the Status Quo. You know, partisan paralysis and gridlock. If the People wanted something done, they would have voted differently. If the People had favored the Republican's agenda, they would have given the Republicans the Senate and the White House. If the People had favored the Democrat's agenda they would have given the Democrats the House. Why would the People want more partisan infighting and gridlock? I have no hard evidence, but I do have a couple of theories on the subject. 1. The People are depressed, and need more of the high comedy and political theater that has been coming out of Washington these last few years. In an era where many of the People get their news from Comedy Central, this makes as much sense as anything else. 2. The People do not approve of either the Democrat or the Republican agenda, and wish to keep Washington pretty much shut down until the People do figure out just exactly what that they do approve of. Sort of a 'keep the two beasts fighting each other until we can figure out how to get rid of them both' sort of thing. 3. The Democrats and the Republicans have each bought and paid for a portion of the electorate, and this is the way things shook out this time. <- this one is probably most likely, in my opinion. ---------------- Now, in the few days since the election I have heard calls from both Republicans and Democrats to move towards the center and get things done. Why? This would be a direct perversion of the Will of the People. https://youtu.be/iY57ErBkFFE #Texit Don't blame me, I voted for Johnson(L) in 2016. Your comments about Governors appear to be based on a misunderstanding of how the States of the Union operate. An approximation might be your Mayor of London. we get about the same if not a bit lower http://www.abc15.com/dpp/news/national/election-results-2012-voter-turnout-lower-than-2008-and-2004-report-says In a rich man's house there is no place to spit but his face.
