For some reason I'm practically unable to get data from seti@home to start a project. It tries to transfer all the necessary files, but 99 % the time it doesn't transfer anything. When it randomly decides to transfer something, it manages to do it in a single bursts of <0.1 kB. Although now it seems to be able to sustain transfer speeds of ca. 2.5 kB for a single file, but that cant be normal either, can it? |

You seem to be getting all the Astropulse tasks that there are. Astropulse is a big Seti task, where when compared the small tasks are only ~360KB in size, the Astropulse is a whopping 8MB in size. Apart from the 8 (!!) you abandoned, there's another 6 coming in. And that's apart from the 14 small Seti tasks. I don't know what kind of internet connection you have, but Seti only has a 100Mbit connection for upload & download simultaneously. Two Astropulse tasks being uploaded will effectively clog up a 100Mbit connection, as 100Mbit/sec divided by 8 bits = 12MB/sec. You'd only get those speeds if you were the only computer connected at that time, however, you're not. At any second there can be up to 10,000 connections going on (as that's AFAIK at this time the maximum the database can handle). So that's 10K computers fighting for the 100Mbit connection and some APs being stuck in the upload line. You get 2.5KB/sec? That's Fast! So, yes, that's normal. Before you scream why Seti doesn't get a faster connection then, they've been trying to do so for years now, but the University of Berkeley, their host, is blocking that. Their land, their buildings, their cables, their decision, their politics. |

my event log shows that I have received the assigned tasks in the transfer file, but they do not appear in the task processing file, it appears that they have vanished from the computer. what is the cause and remedy. |

The tasks tab in the advanced view may have a button that allows you to show only those tasks currently processing, or all tasks on your system. BOINC WIKI |
