Message 1299332 - Posted: 27 Oct 2012, 10:43:10 UTC

I dont see anything in preferences that would cause this. The only reference I see concerning the GPU is to 'USE GPU WHILE COMPUTER IS IN USE' and I have this on. I'm using BOINC 7.0.28 x64. And I've only just installed SETI@HOME so I guess thats the latest version.

Can anyone help? Part of the reason I bought a new Nvidia gfx card (also using the latest drivers) was for this.

Thanks

Message 1299333 - Posted: 27 Oct 2012, 10:48:14 UTC - in response to Message 1299332.

The use of the GPU is a project preference, not a BOINC or global preference. So you'll have to change it in the project's preferences:

Go to Your Account, at http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/home.php
Click on the Seti@Home preferences, at http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/prefs.php?subset=project

Check what is set for:
- Use NVIDIA GPU
- If no work for selected applications is available, accept work from other applications?

Of course if Use Nvidia GPU is set to no, you'll have to change that to yes.

Message 1299516 - Posted: 27 Oct 2012, 22:30:20 UTC - in response to Message 1299333.

Thank you, I'd not seen that page before. The settings were as follows:

Use NVIDIA GPU = YES
If no work for selected applications is available, accept work from other applications = NO.

I have now changed the second item to YES. So I guess I'll wait and see if it does the trick.

Thank you very much for your help. I tried to help myself, but after a good hour or so Googling I couldn't determine what was going wrong. Seriously, thank you!

You've got a bucket load of CUDA tasks appointed, now. Glad to have been of service. :-)

Are they actually running? I'm looking at my GPU with GPU-Z and I cant see any activity. Also the tasks are completing in seconds, look at this:

OK one more question, is it work putting my old ATI 5850 back in, is BOINC able to process on two cards of different types?

the 5850 is a great crunching card. the only problem is that it only runs the stock AP WU's . If and when Lunatics has its Opt apps back and available then you can run the ATI on MB tasks

Excellent, I'll definitely keep the card then, I was thinking about ebaying it. Could you clarify what you mean by 'lunatics' and 'MB tasks' for me, I'm not sure what you mean (sorry).

Also, I was just looking at your stats page and noticed your high average credits on your machines, is this down to crunching with GPUs? Will I be seeing something similar in a few days or are you doing something a bit special? I've been a gamer for years, I cant believe this is the first time I've thought to get my GPU involved. What a wasted opportunity.

These fine folks are instrumental at creating third party and sometimes stock apps for S@H. They are in a bit of a legal bind with intel. If and when that ends they should have their apps and installer available for download

MB stands for MultiBeam (the 'original' SETI@home tasks), as opposed to AstroPulse tasks.
