A real mumdinger this one:

Try this one...... https://setiathome.berkeley.edu/show_host_detail.php?hostid=8278860. I've encountered this one before and at the moment, I have 5 inconclusives involving this machine. Naturally, a message has been sent, but why is this thing allowed to continue 'hoovering'?

In the case of your example its down to a wrong driver version - and I'm sure I've prodded him some time ago :-(

Under Win10 those old pre-Fermi GPU's of his will never work reliably and he needs to upgrade them (he'll also save a lot of power if he does upgrade them).

Cheers.

I've accidentally trashed 200 units, by forgetting to set NNT, while trying to install lunatics on my workstation :(
All of them will error out in October, in the meantime, I'll try to speed that up

Also being a pre-Fermi GPU under Win10 doesn't help any either. :-(

Cheers.

. . I noticed this problem

. . Computer ID 8261480

http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/results.php?hostid=8261480

. . I have sent the owner a PM suggesting they should revert to an appropriate set of drivers for the 9500 GS card.

I'm invalid for a week.

I'm a host to a parasite called quantum mechanics. The symptoms can be found with AI entering the Seti computation world. Nothing can be cured but by the acceptance. That is how the world works.

I wonder if there could be a way to stop the servers sending pre-Fermi equipped Windows 10 rigs GPU work to trash.

Cheers.

And another one. Over 9000 tasks in progress, and has finished only 3 that can be seen.
6 Oct 2017, 1 Nov 2017, and 2 Nov 2017.
The rest time out. Still he/she can download 100/day. Sometimes even more than 100/day.

There's hundreds, if not thousands of such computers on SETI, so no wonder the database gets bloated.
I've stopped PM'ing people like this. For reasons that is obvious to anyone just looking at computers like that one. (politically correct answer)

Yes I am aware that one of my machines started to throw out a bunch of errors. Luckily I was able to catch it. I'll keep an eye on it.

Should we report such blatant cases to Eric or to some specific board (similar to this very one) so that these ressources-wasting computers can be disactivated server side, assuming this can be done - or is routinely done - by SETI@home staff ? Is it worth paying attention and taking the time to report them ?

Server side likely needs a serious tweak to BOINC. Perhaps not a bad idea to keep some kind of fraction of good results and include it in the throttling. Perhaps also some method of shortening the task deadline for these hogs so they can't overfill their work buffer before they throw errors.

In any case that would be significant changes to the server. You would need the support of the admins of several projects to get resources in that direction.

Certainly adding a "% decent" value to the send more work routine would help greatly. It is very doubtful that reduced timeouts would be as effective on their own as all they would do is grab a continuous stream of work and do nothing with it, indeed it could be counter productive (and besides that the amount of work required to implement a per-user variable deadline is very considerable)....
Cutting the floor from 100/day to 10/day or even 1/day would help greatly - they would effectively "die of starvation".
