After starting boinc.exe manually followed by boincmgr.exe, it starts.

This sounds like a dying HDD. I've had HDD's that would install a program only to lose it later. Try a scan disk or check disk for HDD sector errors

This sounds like a dying HDD. I've had HDD's that would install a program only to lose it later. Try a scan disk or check disk for HDD sector errors It BOOTs OK, nothing wrong there, all start-up programs run, except BOINC. I ran chkdsk /f and defrag also AV scan. Nothing out of the ordinary. I'll install a second disk, as I've done on all hosts, only this one has 1 disk, since the 2nd disk failed 5 months ago and removed the BOINC data-dir to the Default map on the C drive*, which then worked. Until I reBOOTed, a few days ago. * C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\BOINC\projects\....... Even checked the Registry, nothing unusual again. Well, it gives me time to find out what will/can have caused this... ____________ Knight Who Says Ni N!, OUT numbered.................

Run HitmanPro 3.5+ (See this Wikipedia article for a description and link to its web site). You can use it for free for 30 days, but probably only have to use it this once.
