One that could go to your head: The Register: Young alcoholic star 'covered in fluids needed for birth of alien life' THEY CAME quite literally FROM OUTER SPACE ... “In the protoplanetary disc of gas and dust surrounding the young, newly formed star, we found glycolaldehyde molecules, which are a simple form of sugar. It is one of the building blocks in the process that leads to the formation of RNA and the first step in the direction of biology,â€... Yea, i'm reading these types of stories a lot lately. Astronomers reporting that they have detected "Organic molecules" either in gas clouds in space, or possibly in the atmosphere of Exoplanets. Be careful Martin, don't be fooled by these stories. There is nothing new about organic molecules existing in soil, or in gas clouds. If you take pretty much any random rock and crush the rock, then mix the dust with water, you will get hydrocarbons, which are organic molecules. If you took some "dirt" from our Moon, and mixed it with water, you would get hydrocarbons. The chemistry of simple organic molecules is everywhere. We should expect to see it in the dust and soil of any Exoplanet, especially if the planet has liquid water. This doesn't mean that they magically self assemble into living things. John. |

Oh yes! We are definitely consisting of organic molecules ourselves. Where does our intelligence come from then? Sugar, or maybe it just resides in our 60 % water containing bodies? Perhaps skildude better could explain these things for us? As far as I know it, he knows a little bit about both medicine as well as chemistry as well. |

Somewhat on topic: Titan surface organics surpass oil reserves on Earth Only a matter of time until BP starts pumping space oil. :P Pure mathematics is, in its way, the poetry of logical ideas. Albert Einstein |

That was kind of implied. ;) Pure mathematics is, in its way, the poetry of logical ideas. Albert Einstein |
