#1 - Online help? Does not exist. You found it! :-) #2 - Does seti@home really want help? Apparently not since nothing I have done allows me to download or use the seti program Then apparently you're doing it wrong. Simple, nay? ;-) #3 - Why did somebody have to "fix" the old seti program? I'm sorry, why did some idiot have to "fix" the old seti program? The old (maybe original) version was simple to download and activate. This version? Is 'crap'. See Why classic SETI@home is closing down and other facts of life., written by Matt Lebofsky, Volunteer moderator, Project administrator, Project developer, Project scientist. #4 - If anyone can tell me in three easy-to-understand steps how to get seti@home to work, I will forever be in your debt. Which step of the two showing on http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/, section Get started, is difficult to follow? 1. Installing BOINC? 2. Choosing and joining projects? |

I have a message for the "ABC" guys. Firstly I "ONLY DO SETI", and anything else gets short shift on my box, which is why the ABC list of tasks is suspended. I'd be pleased if you delete it. Actually when it first appeared, the ABC data took over my computer, put SETI into limbo and of course kind of made me a little upset. So is suspended and WILL stay that way. Cheers Max Garth |

ABC guys? If that is a different BOINC project, they won't see your post here on SETI@Home's message boards. You'll need to go to their website and visit their message boards if you want your voice to be heard. |

This guy is right...the software is crap Installing Boinc and than choose a project, doesn't work. When i install Boinc 7.0.28, and try to choose a project, the software freezes and exits. Now i use the buggy 7.0.31..it works but is buggy... Im useing a 3770k, 8 Gb mem and a nvidia 660ti vidcard with 306.97 drivers. |

Interesting.... I've been using BOINC since 2005. I still have v3.19 and several versions after that, including pre-release versions. I can honestly say I've never had a problem with BOINC and I've installed it on literally dozens of computers. Perhaps if you can detail "buggy" or work through some troubleshooting steps, we can determine if it truly is a bug in the code that needs to be fixed, or if it is something with your specific configuration that is causing the problems. |

It's quite simple... I download Boinc 7.0.28, and install it. Than it asks me to choose a project. When i press "add project", the programm freezes and after a few seconds it exits. I am useing a 3770k processor, 8 gb mem and a evga 660ti vidcard with newest driver. 7.0.30 works, but they warn that it is still buggy.. Today i got a lot of calculation errors.... |

What does your Application Event log say? Any errors reported there? Have you done an AV scan recently? Anti-Malware scan? |

Today i got a lot of calculation errors.... Not just today, you've been having them since you created that hostID. Most all your tasks err on "exit code -1073741819 (0xc0000005)", so I would say to go check this FAQ on that. You also have errors on your GT 660Ti, which could be something about your videocard not being compatible with the present Kepler CUDA application. See this post by Richard Haselgrove on how to fix that. exit code -1073741674 (0xc0000096) can be caused by your anti-virus/firewall program(s). Make sure you add an exclusion in your anti-virus program, for the BOINC Data directory and all its sub-directories and files. Or stop it from actively scanning this directory. |

This guy is right...the software is crap The problem seems to be not entirely on the 'software' but with the (broken) project list BOINC gets from this link: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/project_list.php (But I admit - no software have to hang when the data it reads is bad (it have to issue error message or silently fix/ignore the problem). But in fact you can make most programs to crash by specially crafted (or by-bad-chance generated just 'right' for the purpose) data) For the (broken) project list issue read: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=69720 P.S. For CUDA problems on Kepler there is now a sticky thread by Richard Haselgrove: NVidia driver problems which cause computation errors: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=69735 Â - ALF - "Find out what you don't do well ..... then don't do it!" :) Â |
