But the skunk had the advantage, if scared, of a weapon of mass desecration ...

I had a skunk do that to me when I was camping once upon a time. I sat frozen until he decided to poke around elsewhere. I wasn't scared of him, but I certainly didn't want to scare him!

I had a skunk do that to me this last summer. I did a very good immitation of a tree until it wandered off.

Skunks are more likely to be rabid than raccoons! Hopefully none of you were wearing sandals!!!

Never had the 'pleasure' of encountering a skunk, wouldn't want to either...

Skunks are more likely to be rabid than raccoons! Hopefully none of you were wearing sandals!!!

Sandals are not allowed at Scout camp for several reasons - this being one of the less likely reasons.

The skunk I had investigate me was obvioulsly trying to figure out if my shoe laces were tasty.

Raccoon viruses, of course, sadden me, but I doubt the virus is 100% fatal. Eventually raccoons with some natural immunity to this virus will survive to reproduce themselves. Urban raccoon populations may fall drastically for some time, but eventually they will rise again. Natural selection seems harsh, but it is nature's way. Raccoons are survivors. They are a most adaptable species.

I do hope there are some with a natural immunity Angela, I truly do, as Raccoons going extinct would be a real crying shame.
