One well is to put your cup of tea in and the other one is for the lemon? (or the teabag)

A sweet guess, but that is incorrect.

The oval depression is for an egg, but I'm not sure what is round and goes with an egg.

Gosh some people must not like their thistles. As I've got a set of them I do know. But I don't have a next picture.

Does the outside ring get filled as you eat?

You know that it does, my fellow Californian!!! Gary OBVIOUSLY has won but it seems he does not want to claim his prize. I guess the guessing will go on, then.

Seems to be a problem with which hole you stick the artichoke in and which........on, never mind.

Ok, we have a winner!

I posted a picture of one of my artichoke plates. Here is a picture of an artichoke on a much prettier plate than mine.

Artichokes are commonly grown in California. I had a couple of plants in our backyard for a few years until I decided they were more of an aphid magnet than I cared to have back there. In the center of the plate you place your cooked artichoke. In the little artichoke bud well you place melted butter (I don't bother to clarify it), or mayonnaise or whatever dipping sauce you like. When I want a lower-fat sauce option, I like tomatillo sauce on artichokes. Just a little tip for my California friends.

Anyway, you pull leaves off of the artichoke and dip the meaty end of each leaf into your choice of sauce. You scrape the tasty artichoke meat off each leaf with your teeth, and then you place the scraped leaf on the outer rim of the plate. Eventually you take a spoon, scrape the fuzzy stuff off the artichoke heart and then eat the heart.

Yumm-oh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

P.M. going out to our winner now...

Au Contraire!

Which cultivar do you have? I have a Meyer and love it! You can eat them as picked.
