We all know that the UK is the unofficial "51st" state of America. How long before the "Emerald Isle" becomes the "Black Isle & 52nd State" at least until the oil runs out? Or even worse, the IRA get in on the act & gain a stranglehold on the oil, the US "finds" that the IRA have WMD's thereby forcing America to "invade"..... Far fetched? Don't think so as everything has to be big in the States making them gluttons for oil! Ireland close to oil billions |

Sounds like we will have to rename Dublin as "The Dallas of Ireland". And we will have to take off our Irish country caps and replace them with Stetsons. And us Irish have always held the claim of being the 51st state of the USA. John. |

Sirus, that was last year, we now are starting to frack alot for natural gas, for the better or worse. Actually, they've slowed the frack down. It appears that all that Fracking was causing a drop in Natural Gas Prices. In a rich man's house there is no place to spit but his face. Diogenes Of Sinope |

Ah sorry, James. Forgot that they use their "own" environmentalists... :) Let's hope that BP don't get their hands on it as that will definitely be the ruination of the Irish Coast. |

We all know that our neighbor to the north (Canada) has held the 51st state claim for many a year. Also: Mexico is considered part of Texas by most people, and thus, already a part of the US. |

Samten, the US twice tried to conquer Canada - Revolutionary War and the War of 1812. Didn't go well. They made further noises about Canada in the 1840's -- Daniel Webster, as Secretary of State negotiated a settlement which has held since then. (boundary disputes in Maine, and in the Northwest). The US did acquire by conquest territory from Mexico -- first Texas (via Americans who went there under false pretenses -- primary false pretense being they didn't want to extend slavery to Texas -- part of Mexico -- no slavery allowed), and then via the war of conquest that got the southwest and California. But other candidate for a 51st state would be Puerto Rico - grabbed from Spain. Those activities in 19th century (and early 20th century) were pretty much the norm for 'western world' countries -- so one should take care judging them via a 21st century lens. Then again, it seems there are folks who insist on reading the US Constitution through an 18th century lens. |

I think I will spread it around the community, and I will think hard about voting for this candidate until I know more about his sponsors long term motives. It's good to be back amongst friends and colleagues |

20 states are passing around Petition's to remove themselves from the Union. We'll see how the numbers work out. Many reasons, oil and the EPA is one of them reasons... |

[don't you read your own press anymore? USA doesn't have a press anymore. All they have been able to print is articles on how horrible the GOP is and congratulating themselves on getting Obama reelected. That or some sex scandal. |

The United States is like the Hotel California, you can check in but you can't check out. It has always amazed me that the Russian states could vote to leave the union but not so here.
