There might be one or two kitchen tools I have that would mystify him...

Just like the Canadian frozen North

Here we have the frozen north, south, and middle.
We have seven months of winter, and five months
of bad skiing.

Superb summary :-)

one or two kitchen tools........

No fair Angela, I was a single father for 12 years, and
there are few kitchen tools I don’t know about.

Good day for a needle day.

Snow doesn't bug me. Extreme cold yes but snow nope.

Me neither. It's nice to play with the kids in the snow and to make a snowman.

Message 1293881 - Posted: 11 Oct 2012, 17:41:09 UTC - in response to Message 1293771.

I have some very fond memories that involve white Christmases. There was nothing better for me as a child to see some snowfall on Christmas Eve, and to be ushered off to bed so that Santa could come.

Then to wake up the next morning with the fresh-fallen snow on the ground and all the presents around the tree!

I would be up by about 4:30AM trying to wake my parents up, who had just fallen asleep about 3 hours earlier, so that I could start unwrapping presents! My step-father's favorite game was to pretend he was sleeping until all of us kids would come in to demand he get up so we can begin the gift unwrapping time. This never happened before 6:30AM. :-D

After unwrapping gifts, my Mother would always cook us some french toast, bacon, and/or cinnamon and brown sugar oatmeal, complete with orange juice and/or milk.

Most beautiful of all was the tree itself, though I didn't learn to appreciate it until much later. My Mom would put so much time and effort into making a truly amazing looking tree. Maybe I'm biased, but I haven't seen too many people put the TLC into tree decorating than my Mother did. It was full of ornaments, garland, very well light (2500+ lights) and the perfect amount of tinsel laid out on the branches in such a carefully placed manner. I still remember the one year my Mother really out-did herself that we brought over so many people to see our tree.

I remember when I used to celebrate Christmas, I would try to make the tree as wonderful as my Mother did, and I would always end up frustrated and having to "settle" for less. I just didn't have the touch my Mother did when it came to decorating that tree. Being a perfectionist, I would just get so angry with myself for not being able to do it right.

Heh. Very fond memories. <sigh>

We last had snow in 2008, I don't know what month It was anymore, but for a day, it was very quiet and very cold outside, as there was snow from the CA/NV border all the way to Cajon Pass, the 15 was shutdown in between those two points, Here it was 6" deep, in Victorville near the Cajon Pass it was 1' deep...

Well, as always I'm prepared for the winter. I have just put on my studless snow tires on my car, and if there's going to be more snow/ice than a normal winter, I have my studded tires ready. If the studded tires isn't enough, I even have snow chains.

Gimme all you can throw at me Mr winter, you will not stop me from using my car.

We had snow here this morning (yes I know, its spring here) though it didn't last long as the rain had washed most of it away by sunrise.

Cheers.

Well at least the Glaciers are in retreat, otherwise the ice would grind everything ahead of it that didn't move to powder...
