I've been having this vexing error for a long time now. I've uninstalled and reinstalled BOINC, but still getting the same error. I'd sure appreciate help learning how to fix this and so I can get back to work!

Message 1292460 - Posted: 7 Oct 2012, 17:22:59 UTC

I seem to have fixed this. I deleted app_info.xml in my /usr/share/boinc-app-seti/ directory and seti@home is now running fine, for the first time in ages.

I now have three broken links:
/var/lib/boinc-client/projects/setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/app_info.xml
/var/lib/boinc-client/projects/setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/app_info.xml
/var/lib/boinc-client/projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu/app_info.xml

If anyone knows what a generic app_info.xml should look like I'd be happy to know... Or if I actually don't need this anymore I'd like to know that too...

thanks!

If you are not using optimized applications, you do NOT need an app_info.xml file

(I don't know what the Debian/Ubuntu folks have been doing packaging up Boinc with an app_info.xml AND a Seti app, because boinc will download the seti app once you connect to the project anyways... and the app_info.xml is typically only used for customizing what apps you use and how they are used.)
