Since I installed seti @ home, the daily startup system restore points discontinued on my Vista pc. When I disabled bionics/seti screen saver, the restore points resumed being generated. Got a comment on this? Help?

daily restore points? why? That seems to be a bit of an overkill and a waste of resources. My PC only does restore points when I make major software updates for windows or other programs.

As far as BOINC is concerned I don't see why it would or could prevent a system restore point

When I disabled bionics/seti screen saver...

Did you disable the screensaver or the BOINC client (project application)?

Perhaps the restore point is only generated when the computer is idle; and with any BOINC project running, the computer is never idle - unless you set your preferences accordingly.

Since the auto daily system restore points are generated at startup, I modified processing to only activate between 12:00 and 22:00. If I crank up the box prior to, this should allow the nominal restore point to be generated. Will see.
Any other options fine-tuning you may suggest?

On this page: http://boinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/wiki/Client_configuration is a description of how to set up a cc_config.xml file. In particular, "<start_delay>nseconds</start_delay>
Specify a number of seconds to delay running applications after client startup. New in 6.1.6", looks interesting.

The contents of the config.xml file would look like:

<cc_config>
   <options>
       <start_delay>300</start_delay>
   </options>
</cc_config>
for a 5 minute delay.

IMPORTANT NOTE: the cc_config.xml file goes in the BOINC DATA directory. The location of this file is something like the second or third line in the log after a cold start. The default location for Vista and 7 is c:\ProgramData\BOINC. Note that ProgramData is by default a hidden directory.

The computing change to 12-22 hrs worked.
Thanks for the config script; will keep that for later.
Thanks to all on this!
