I cannot download the installer for the optimised apps. What is up with that? I would really like to update a couple of clients but do not have the time to do it manually.

The important line is: Installers have been temporarily removed pending resolution of some concerns related to licensing (20 Sept. 2012). If I remember correctly, there were some licensing issues with Intel and Lunatics is working on resolving these issues. There's nothing that can be done about that, please just wait it out. ____________

It's unusual to have a problem after all this time, but I'm sure this is necessary, even though inconvenient. Can anyone from Luntics give us a clue as to timescales here. Are we talking days, weeks or months? Nice to know how long we have to be patient :-)

There is a issue with Intel and GPL. You'd think they'd go out of the their way to encourage people to use their software to sell more of their hardware... ____________ Grant Darwin NT.

Richard can explain better probably. Unfortunately, there's not a lot I can add. It's actually a problem which dates back to the early days of optimisation (2006!), but now the lawyers have seen a comment written in good faith then, they can't very well un-see it. The situation is made more complicated by changes in personnel since 2006, and by the current revived push to deploy SETI v7 here - that involves re-writing and re-testing all applications, both stock and optimised. We're doing everything we can, but we're reliant on input from other busy people too. Please accept out apologies for the delay - we'll either re-enable the v0.40 installer, or post a replacement, as soon as the various issues are sorted out.

Will anyone be angry if I (or anybody) upload the Lunatics v0.40 Installers to a free hosting site Eric Korpela, the Regents of the University of California, and the Free Software Foundation might all wish to have words with you. It's probably better not, until we can get a legal ruling.

You might very well think that - I could not possibly comment (source). ;)

but deleted them from the HDD thinking they will be always available for download This case shows once again, that you should never rely on some websites which might change, become temporarily unavailable or even disappear from the web, better archive everything as far as possible yourself. I store all downloaded installers on my USB-HDD, usually I never need them and just have some additional work replacing the older versions with new ones, but in situation like this one it can really help. Also very usefull for hardware drivers, the manufacturers sometimes remove those for older hardware from their webside and think that people will buy something new because of that. ____________ .

Since I never cared about so called 'licensing' (of any program) Then it's high time you did, we don't need loose cannons around here. Intel have historically been good to the Seti project, I see no reason to aggravate them unnecessarily. Richard has given us the current situation, I'm sure that Eric as a very busy man, would prefer not to have to issue an official statement.

Since I never cared about so called 'licensing' (of any program) I agree, SETI@Home is a public project and must abide by any rules/laws. Just because you are happy to steal software doesn't mean we all are. ____________

but deleted them from the HDD thinking they will be always available for download This is why I archive things. Just in case I might need them later. At the moment I only have the all of the installers from v0.37 to v0.40. Since I have them compressed they take up a whopping 30MB. ____________ SETI@home classic workunits: 93,865 CPU time: 863,447 hours Join the BP6/VP6 User Group today!

but deleted them from the HDD thinking they will be always available for download But those who already have installed the Optimized Applications, including the LUNATICs V40 Installer and still run it, can keep on running it. Until a new version is available? (Me, too have copies of the V0.37, V0.38, V0.39 and V0.40 installers). ____________ Knight Who Says Ni N!, OUT numbered.................

But those who already have installed the Optimized Applications, I suspect the official answer would be no. However it is practically impossible to make everyone uninstall and delete all versions back to 2006. So the best that can be done is to stop anyone new using it. Lets hope it's sorted soon, I too have most of the installers unofficially of course:-) ____________

We're doing everything we can, but we're reliant on input from other busy people too. Hope your group can continue making progress on the new apps and any changes to the current ones that become necessary. If more testers are needed, let us know. I don't run Beta because I'm not a well qualified tester, but if you need someone for the dummy test, let me know. If I can get it to work, any one can! ____________ Another Fred Support SETI@home when you search the Web or shop online with GoodSearch and GoodShop

Will anyone be angry if I (or anybody) upload the Lunatics v0.40 Installers to a free hosting site AFAIK they found ICC builds safe enough. Perhaps this situation (with disabled app downloads) will end soon.
