Hello, I downloaded BOINC today and joined Seti@Home and Rosetta@Home. Rosetta immediately gave me tasks to work on, but Seti has not. I've Updated several times for no change. Am I missing something? How long should I wait to get tasks before we decide something is out of whack? Thanks! David |

They had some problem for ~8 hours (the white dip in the green): http://fragment1.berkeley.edu/newcricket/grapher.cgi?target=%2Frouter-interfaces%2Finr-250%2Fgigabitethernet2_3;view=Octets;ranges=d ... and now the demand for tasks (of ~200 000 'hungry' computers) is big, tasks are 'sucked' faster than can be generated: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/sah_status.html Usually people discuss similar problems in "Panic Mode On (XX) Server Problems" threads here: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_forum.php?id=10 Â - ALF - "Find out what you don't do well ..... then don't do it!" :) Â |

When starting two projects on a new host, at the same time, one of them will get preference and will fill your cache with work. The other one will have to wait until there is space in the cache (and the project has work to send). In your case Rosetta got in first and has filled your cache, leaving S@H to wait while. The cache is common to both projects in so far as it works on processing time - if you have it set to 3 days then it will hold a total of three days work, not three days work for each project. Friends, I have a similar matter - I downloaded BOINC and it's up and running; SETI is the only outfit that I care to work with. That said, there isn't any work to do, CPU-wise. My project status line indicates "Communications Deferred" and counts down from 5:02 down to zero, then re-starts. Am I doing something wrong? Many thanks! |

You have a problem, Seti isn't able to send you one of their images. So all your work ends with: <core_client_version>7.0.28</core_client_version> <![CDATA[ <message> app_version download error: couldn't get input files: <file_xfer_error> <file_name>seti_603.jpg</file_name> <error_code>-200</error_code> </file_xfer_error> </message> ]]> This is easily fixed though, by going into your global preferences and changing Skip image file verification? from no to yes. When done, open BOINC Manager (when in Simple view do Tools->Advanced view) ->Projects tab, select Seti, click the Update button. That teaches BOINC about your newest preferences. |
