First we have the funeral of the first of the two fallen Police Officers in Manchester. Happening as I post at Manchester cathedral, and a fitting tribute.

RIP our two fallen police women, and I pray the little kidnapped 5 year old girl is found unharmed.

Sadly I have to report that today is just as sombre.

5 years old with Cerebral Palsy, I doubt it. It's weeks like this that I really wished we lived in a total police state - with me being Pierpoint, i'd adjust that noose just right so that the bugger would take long enough to die.

Everybody still fervently hopes that there will be the hoped for result to this search, but as we approach 72 hours after the child went missing, and the news that she has cerebral palsy, the chances of that outcome are becoming increasingly slim.

At 10.30 am this Friday morning, police have revealed that Mark Bridger has been arrested on suspicion of murdering five-year-old April Jones.

The dynamics of the search have now changed and due to the passage of time and the developments within the investigation, it is no longer appropriate for us to expect untrained members of the public to continue the search. So now we only require professional searchers to be involved in the ongoing search which continues in and around Machynlleth.

Barring the fact that April may be held by an accomplice, a 5 year old missing in that region at this time of the year without any warm clothing or food.....

We don't have capital punishment in the UK any more, despite some peoples insistence that it should be brought back. Swearing an oath on the Bible is partly symbolic in UK courts of law. But they must allow people who believe in God to swear in front of him – and atheists to affirm by whatever they believe in. The essence of a divine oath is an invocation of divine agency to be a guarantor of the oath taker's own honesty and integrity in the matter under question. By implication, this invokes divine displeasure if the oath taker fails in their sworn duties. It therefore implies greater care than usual in the act of the performance of one's duty, such as in testimony to the facts of the matter in a court of law. However we are getting sidetracked. By now it is becoming increasingly unlikely that the child will be found alive, although there is always hope right up until the very end. Whether the man in custody will be eventually be charged and imprisoned, we will have to wait and see. I started this thread as there is considerable worldwide interest in the events that I have referred to, i.e. the police women funerals and the missing child. I think that whether capital punishment should or should not be re-introduced, or the form that suitable sentences for those that may be found responsible might take, should be discussed in another thread elsewhere. In the meantime I'll keep this thread open to let our Seti colleagues abroad, that may not have direct links to the ongoing situation, to be up to date with developments. I'll ask for it to be closed at an appropriate point.

Sad it ends this way, potentially!

Here in the US, some local jurisdictions will send an officer to represent them, same for Fire Department personnel too. No matter what this is a sad occasion.
