Friends....

First-I am not talking about the Seti boards in any matter.

I have seen a lot of hostility between people everywhere (radio, tv, newspapers) simply because of different political ideaologies. I'm not talking simple disagreement but out-and-out mean-spiritedness.

I was raised to respect other political views even if I don't agree. It is very hard in this day & time to keep that stance with the negativity out there.

It's very frustrating to me.

Thoughts?

My thoughts are I agree entirely. Me and you Blurf do not live in a 'swing state' so we do not have to deal with presidential race attack ads.

However, this election season, more than any I have seen in my life, the media and the American public seems to be taking sides to an extreme.

There is no more middle of the road apparently. Apparently it's all come down to "us vs. them" with each person deciding they are either part of "them" or "us".

Others on the boards have mentioned it used to be about picking the guy with the best plan and ideas. Now it's all about picking the guy that's "on your side"...

Truly kind of saddening to see how divided this country is.

Perhaps if politicians were about listening to the people, instead of listening to lobbyists, we could begin to see some common ground again, and once again see our divided parties work together to find "middle of the road" solutions...

I say all of this neither as a democrat or republican, but rather as an American.

It's the lies. It's the short-term thinking. It's voter apathy. It's the entitlement mentality.

The maker has generously given in the past without much complaint and is now at the breaking point because more and more is being asked of him.

The taker is biting the hand that feeds him harder and harder.

I'm not rich by any definition in DC.

I'm rich by definition of the EBT card holder.

My HOA dues are about to rise. (rising electricity, water, and grounds keeper fees, plus some in my neighborhood voted to have a "hot dog party" with the excess of funds last year.)

My local school district just had a tax ratification election raising my property tax to cover the short-fall caused by decreased funding from Washington and now they say they can hire 4 new teachers because of the tax ratification election. By the way, 12% of the voters in my district showed up to vote and it passed by only a couple dozen votes.

My city is claiming the drought last year is straining the budget because of dead trees. The answer? Higher taxes.

My county just lowered the ad valorum tax by 0.25% but because property values went up, they now have an additional $750K in the budget next year. The commissioner can rightly claimed he lowered taxes even though I'm going to give him more money this year than I did last year.

Thank GOD Rick Perry is saying he's committed to cutting state spending instead of raising sales tax. I think the state house is going to follow along. I hope. The liberals down in Austin will viciously attack him for cutting the budget, starving childred and grandma and cutting education.

And then we have those in Washington DC who are now inflating the dollar at a continuous rate of $40B/month, they spend $1T more each year than they take in, and they think they can fix everything by taxing the rich more.

Why is there more and more intolerance? Beats me!

It's also the pointing of fingers... I'm just saying

Oh and a bit of blame and shame.

Guy, I thought it was really cool when Gov Perry cut your state's fire fighting funding in a La Nina year, (drought in your part of the world), 2 years ago. You got the drought followed by a record fire season. He then asked who could have seen this coming? The answer was the weather scientists. Enlightened leadership I think not.

Perhaps not a good time to mention that I was one of them weather guys when I was in the Air Force.

As long as the discussion in my thread doesn't turn into slamming each other, I am fine.

the art of negotiation requires both sides to agree to compromise. For the benefit of all the middle must be found. One side telling the other that the basis of negotiation is saying no to everything or stating that they will not compromise negates negotiations.

It then becomes the need of the others to do their best to find a middle ground and run with it. Lacking negotiations one side is forced to decide for both sides. This is also not good for exactly the opposite reasons.

Again, having a group decide to say no to everything defeats a Congresses ability to create law and make the middle the norm. Extremes on both sides are being seen and I get tired of hearing about it.

A stranglehold on negotiations is not negotiations. Its hostage taking. The people that are hostage and the citizens these gentlefolk represent. If I found myself in a room full of individuals that walked in lockstep. I'd start asking for DNA samples to check for clones. Noboby agrees all the time and certainly districts have different needs. I assume the representatives know this. Yet they conveniently disregard district needs for political needs.

Why anyone would sign a paper declaring they won't do a specific think regardless of a need is beyond me. Unless of course you are a priest and promise to not have sex...that one I think should be enforced

If you want my Super-PAC money for your campaign you will vote exactly as I tell you or I'll give it to your opponent. Multiply with Citizens United and stew though an election cycle.

I agree. Allowing money to be thrown at elections is probably the worst thing the SC could have allowed.

Lets be honest here. Businesses are not people and shouldn't be treated as such. I don't recall a company ever being put in prison or death row when it kills people. Nor is money equivalent to free speech. If that is true and we are all entitled to free speech, how is it some are entitled more than others?

An honest politician would be able to say to his people. "I cannot fix things alone. I will require help from others. We may not get everything we want or need but let's see what we can achieve."
