Doh! That's right, the SETI programs are automatically downloaded by the manager, you don't manually install them. Is it worth trying to save the present work units that have not been processed yet or better to just let it download new ones after the rollback?

Wizard2468

If you follow the directions properly, you won't lose any work in progress. Just stop BOINC completely before you start the re-install process.

Just did the rollback. No problems and did not lose the work units. I always did like this version much better, I really like having the "Messages" tab, the more info I have access to the better I like it. I had forgotten how nice that feature was. Thanks for the suggestion. I did do an uninstall of BOINC from the add/remove programs tool first. Now will see in a day or so how it goes. I will post updates as appropriate. Till then thanks to all for help. Have a Good One! Love, Peace and Perception

That did not fix the problem. It just started a new work unit after being on for 1 day 13 hours and it shows the completed unit as computation error, the next unit as computation error ad then started the next unit and it was running properly until I tried to copy the relevant messages from the messages tab so I could include them here and then it disconnected from the local host and everything went blank until I exited BOINC. BOINC will not restart. The messages did say something about "You may need to restart your computer" but I cannot remember what the others said, I thought I had them copied. If they reappear after I reboot I will paste them here. Next time I will try a screenshot as well as copying the relevant message lines.

Just rebooted and when BOINC started up it showed the 3 computation errors mentioned in the previous post and 8 more as computation errors. I will upload these now. The transfers tab only shows the 3 work units finished from before the restart, not the 8 new computation errors.

Message 1288217 - Posted: 26 Sep 2012, 21:10:54 UTC - in response to Message 1287262.

Storms last night knocked out power before the time the computer was on reached the point that BOINC would have messed up so waiting for enough time to pass to have the problem again. How would I go about re-installing the SETI program, not the BOINC program? Under the "projects" tab would I use the reset project button, the detach button and then re-attach to SETI or is there another way to completely start SETI over again just for this particular computer [6692865]?

Reset dumps everything the project has sent you.

Did a disk clean on the Toshiba laptop ID: 6176446 and got the free space up to 12 GB but still did not help. Also defragged and still had the same problem. But see next post, believe found a solution.

Message 1290306 - Posted: 2 Oct 2012, 5:08:24 UTC - in response to Message 1288763.

Waited until I had processed all the work units on the Toshiba laptop ID: 6176446 and then reset the project. PROBLEM SOLVED!!! It has been running for 1 day and 18 hours now without any computation errors! Going to leave it run to about 2 or 3 days to make sure, then reboot every 2 days or so as I used to. Noticed it would have re-downloaded work units so I did not have to wait to reset the Compaq tower ID: 6692865. It had just acted up when it finished a work unit so I rebooted and then reset the SETI project. Work units were resent. Another problem I had, which I did not even associate with SETI or BOINC, has also disappeared. I have a Wi-Fi 802.11N 150Mps dongle and had only been connecting at 75 Mps. As soon as I reset SETI, I started connecting at 150 Mps again! So apparently

SOLUTION: RESET PROJECT!!!

I will update a time or two yet even if everything is now working properly and then only if a problem arises again. Thanks to everyone who helped me figure out this problem, it was just getting more and more frustrating! Glad to finally have this resolved! [Knock on Wood!!!]

The Toshiba laptop ID: 6176446 just had a string of computation errors again after being on for about 2 days, so I just reset the project again. The Compaq tower ID: 6692865 is still functiong correctly but has not been on long enough for the problem to manifest; I had to restart it for other reasons. However, the Wi-Fi is still connecting at 150 Mbps as it should, so I am still hoping this one is fixed. I will continue to update as needed.

Just had 37 computation errors on the Compaq tower ID: 6692865. I guess I will just have to live with this for a while. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Have a Good One! Love, Peace and Perception

Message 1291393 - Posted: 4 Oct 2012, 21:27:59 UTC

When I look at computer ID 6692865, the majority of the computation errors are due to the inability to download setigraphics_6.03_windows_intelx86.exe because of a signature verification error.

When I look at computer ID 5738144, I only see two errors because you aborted the download or reset the project.

When I look at computer ID 6176446, I see various errors that look like the permissions on the folders are not setup right by the BOINC installer.

The fix for the first computer would be to try turning off Signature File Verification in your BOINC Preferences as your ISP may be trying to compress transfers and messing with the computed hash for setigraphics_6.03_windows_intelx86.exe.

The fix for the last computer would be to completely uninstall BOINC, remove all entries from the Windows Registry, and delete the BOINC Program and BOINC Data folders then re-install BOINC fresh.

Turning off the check for graphics won't help in this case. The file that is munged is an executable. I wonder if some AV program is reaching in and trying to clean up a perfectly good executable. The reasoning for this is that it works for a while, and then suddenly fails.

I have been focusing on the Toshiba laptop ID: 6176446. I uninstalled BOINC and deleted both BOINC program and application folders and looked for registry entries with regedit. I did not find anything but was not sure what I was looking for. Installed BOINC 6.10.60 and re-attached to the SETI@Home project. It reset the statistic tab, it now just shows 2 days of results, but did keep the number of units done for that particular computer at 53,XXX. Had 30 units go to computation error a few hours ago. Letting it go for a while, see what happens.

The Compaq tower ID: 6692865 just started producing eomputation errors. This time I happened to be watching it and it started after the computer had been running for 1 day, 11 hours and 38 minutes. It turned the unit it was working on to computation error, went to the next one for about a minute, then turned it and then started going pretty rapidly from one unit to the next turning them to computation errors. I stopped it at 9 and rebooted.
The Toshiba laptop ID: 6176446 I allowed to get to about 1 day and 10 hours and then exited BOINC to double check and make sure it is BOINC starting the problem and not just reacting to a failure in another program. I will leave that run for a day without BOINC running and report back then unless it fouls up before then.

I've been getting computational errors on about 80% of all my seti projects. I've tried resetting the project, removing the project then re-adding it, and running a Repair for boinc, I'm not having any other issues with other projects. Any help you can provide would be appreciated. Thanks Barry

If it is the i7-3610 with the GT-650M, it is most likely the second issue in this thread.

Just came across this thread and it really struck me because your description of the problem in the first post sounded just like the problem I was recently having re: computation error etc. I learned from the Wiki page about checking the Windows errors log, and came to find out that apparently my video card driver (ATI Radeon 6700 w/ Catalyst) kept popping up in error descriptions. In any case, I uninstalled Boinc and Boinc manager, and uninstalled my vid card driver, updated to the most recent version of Catalyst, and then reinstalled Boinc and Boinc manager, and voila! No mas problemas!
