Most of my AP downloads today start on the first or second try and run to completion at 25-40k/sec.

Same here. I just stop receivinig more WU for my computer becuse i cant get any for more then a week. I dont have comp turning ON for all night that he will eating dust in that time.
I dont know why, but something is clear that someone on SETI dont want that BOINC will run normal for that project. Thats obviously.
99% of us all know that when they turning on AP WU a half of us cant get any data. And what they do in that week when we cant get any data.... turning ON AP server again. Thats SICK and sick will stay.
Thats just my opinien and i will stay on that.
As i say, when they will work better i come back, maybe others to, util then good luck to all.

cheers

Completely empty here now. It this it? Have we completely maxed out SETI@home now? Does this mean there really is no point in upgrading my kit anymore?

I for one would like to know if it's just shorites/APs or if there is some other problem, this have gone one for quite some time now.

What I've been getting cycles between shorties and vlars, with a very few mid-range (0.4). Got an AP last night, first one in over a week. Downloads depend on what time of day they are issued. This last batch took multiple pushes of the retry button, and when they finally came down, it was at .4-5 KBps. And I'm only about 150 miles southeast of Berkeley.

My fastest cruncher is an old dual P4, with a 2+1 day cache. Shorties take 2.5 - 3 hours, 2 at a time. My pending tasks are almost twice my in-progress.

I think it's just an extended shortie storm, and we just have to be patient.

Well there are apparently two problems:

The current 100meg link is nearly always maxed out giving:

5966 29/09/2012 14:48:50 Project communication failed: attempting access to reference site
5967 29/09/2012 14:48:51 Internet access OK - project servers may be temporarily down.
and this:

5497 SETI@home 29/09/2012 13:04:55 Started download of 27my12ad.593.150453.13.10.14
5498 SETI@home 29/09/2012 13:04:58 Temporarily failed download of 28jn12ab.30430.51043.7.10.122: HTTP error
5499 SETI@home 29/09/2012 13:04:58 Backing off 7 hr 55 min 39 sec on download of 28jn12ab.30430.51043.7.10.122

These seem to be most of my errors today.

Of course if you do actually connect to the servers, because of the high number of tasks being requested, you may get this:

4209 SETI@home 29/09/2012 09:15:51 Sending scheduler request: To report completed tasks.
4210 SETI@home 29/09/2012 09:15:51 Reporting 4 completed tasks, requesting new tasks for CPU and NVIDIA GPU
4232 SETI@home 29/09/2012 09:16:05 Project has no tasks available

If as I suspect everything is working as it should in the lab then we may have just reached saturation point. Just look at the top computers and their RAC's most of them must be asking for huge amounts of work to keep 4+cpu's and 3-4 gpu's happy.

Of the two problems the 100meg link seems to cause the highest number of errors for me over the past couple of days. While there was a rumor a while back that there were plans afoot to do something about the link, it has gone very quiet of late.

Doesn't make any difference today. I have Boinc Tasks open on my 2nd screen and I have 300 tasks in "download pending" for ages. However you "retry" them makes no difference. Possibly 3-4 an hour actually download.

I'm normally completely stuck on this message:

29/09/2012 18:21:52 | SETI@home | [sched_op] Starting scheduler request
29/09/2012 18:21:52 | SETI@home | Sending scheduler request: To report completed tasks.
29/09/2012 18:21:52 | SETI@home | Reporting 1 completed tasks
29/09/2012 18:21:52 | SETI@home | Not requesting tasks: some download is stalled
29/09/2012 18:21:52 | SETI@home | [sched_op] CPU work request: 0.00 seconds; 0.00 devices
29/09/2012 18:21:52 | SETI@home | [sched_op] ATI work request: 0.00 seconds; 0.00 devices

And with that one download being stuck, BOINC refuses to request more work. But then I must agree that one download is completely stuck. I have to abort it to get new work - and work that actually downloads. Until the next stuck task. Oh well. ;-)

Oh well, at least it is a change of attention span, when compared to trying to restart the DrugDiscovery@Home server (which failed more miserably ;-))

Not weird, as the upload server is now disabled. http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/sah_status.html

That tends to flick off and on in normal usage -- I'll believe it when it stays in that state for an hour or more.
