Hi Everyone,

" I NEED HELP"
I have bought the following parts to build a new Computer. I need help in setting up the processors. It will have 32 cores and 48 Gigs of memory. I can put it all together but in tweaking it I need help.
ALSO, which GTX card would be BEST in NUMBER CRUNCHING

Below is a breakdown of the components.........

In a nutshell...

CUDA Rig:

Motherboard: EVGA Classified SR-X PART NUMBER: 270-SE-W888-KR

Processors : 2 X Intel Xeon 2.3GHz 20MB L3 8 Core/16 Thread Sandy Bridge
Video Card(s): 4 X EVGA GTX 590 (Fermi) Classified ?????????
Ram: CORSAIR Vengeance 48GB
Hard drive: Intel 320 Series SSDSA2BW120G301 2.5" 120GB SATA II MLC Solid State Drive (SSD)

Power Supplies:2 X Thermaltake TRX-1200M TR2 RX 1200W ATX12V V2.3 Power

Solutions: 2 X CORSAIR H80 (CWCH80) High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler

Operation System:Microsoft: Windows7

What exactly are you wanting for help?

Build it. install boinc. run boinc
or alternately install Lunatics apps. then run boinc

First off, eveything looks good on paper. BUT...at least one member of my Team has built almost the same rig, and has NEVER been able to get it to run without crashing. The only ones that have run, that I am aware of, are built in server format with Windows server OS.

Secondly, for 4 590's, even if they did work, you are potentially underpowered. My twin 590 rig is running 1 1200W PSU just for the GPU's, and a 650W PSU for everything else. 4 590's alone will need close to the 2400W you're providing. Note: hope your location wiring is up to the load. Since cost doesn't seem to be an object, you very well could be better off getting 4 690's instead. The use less power and run cooler.

Third, you don't mention water cooling for the GPU's, so I presume you're going air cooled. That is a heluva lot of heat that has to go somewhere. Unless you're planning a caseless assembly with a tone of external fans, you'll have a difficult time keeping operating temps within reason, especially if you plan to run 24/7.

Finally, if you do plan to use a case, what case are you looking at? Cases that are built for 2 PSU's are available, and highly recommended. Look up the Enermax Fulmo on your favorite supplier's website.

Many Thanks to the people that have responded to me, I'm not putting the computer in a case (open Air). They all are running in my barn so they get allot of air, also I'm running ALL power supply's on 220 volts which helps cut down power consumption. I'm water cooling the CPU's.

There is one question that I needed answered: What GTX card would give me the most bang for the BUCK?

Here is a list of the computers I'm running now!

Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 4400 @ 2.00GHz [Family 6 Model 15 Stepping 2]
(2 processors) NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580 (1536MB) driver: 29610 Microsoft Windows Vista

Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU X 980 @ 3.33GHz [Family 6 Model 44 Stepping 2]
(12 processors) [3] NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580 (1535MB) driver: 29573 Microsoft Windows XP

Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 960 @ 3.20GHz [Family 6 Model 26 Stepping 5]

There's no "best" answer to that question. My recommendation is to look at this list and see what the top producers are running.
