He referred to a "Phobos monolith" in a July 22, 2009, interview with C-SPAN: "We should go boldly where man has not gone before. Fly by the comets, visit asteroids, visit the moon of Mars. There's a monolith there. A very unusual structure on this potato shaped object that goes around Mars once in seven hours. When people find out about that they're going to say 'Who put that there? Who put that there?' The universe put it there. If you choose, God put it there…

The Aldrin Wiki link cited something about him getting upset with an Apollo conspiracy theorist. I imagine that would be frustrating after so many years.

I would imagine that after all the hard work I had done to become an astronaut, then actually travel to the moon and be among the first to ever walk upon it, only to come back and after 50 years still be told that it was all a hoax... I would be quite infuriated as well.

Getting angry might not be the appropriate reaction, and it may serve to validate those conspiracy theorists, but I can relate, at times, the frustration in dealing with conspiracy theorists and their personal attacks (I had my own detractor right here on the SETI@home forums telling me I was a government "disinformation" agent because I fight against UFOlogy).

Aldrin was lured to a false meeting to discuss science and ended up facing a TV crew demanding he fess up about the moon landings. It is worrying that with his background he endorsed the obelisk on Mars's moon though.

I watched the video link, but I think he may have been expressing some tongue in cheekiness. ;~)
