Oh, just checking this thing out. What does the article cite when it comes to "Sky lanterns"?

"This article needs additional citations for verification. Please help improve this article by adding citations to reliable sources. Unsourced material may be challenged and removed. (January 2010)".

Did I happen to see this quote any other place? Really this thing was new to me.

Apparently you should not believe in either December 31th, or January 1st for that matter. What is in between is a celebration of New Year's Eve, which marks the end of one year and the start of yet another one. In the meantime you are supposed to be drunk.

MP - That comment is a "fussy editor" comment used by some Wikipedia editors. I've seen it a few times.

As to sky/Chinese/fire lanterns - they look great when you see them in the vast numbers the Chinese launch them at New Year. But in the ones and twos we Westerners launch them they do look rather lonely.

the china lantern effect is a notorious artifact from being grossly out of focus

You can tell what a messed up place this planet is coz whenever there is a time of celebration and all the humans are busy the aliens take the oppetunity to go for a fly is their `flying cars` and think the idiots on the ground won`t see them.

I don't want to alarm anyone, but on my way back home from the off-licence earlier I spotted one passing over my house. Approx 20:50 GMT. It looked like a lantern, the flickering effect of a flame and the orange coloured globe shape gave it away.

But, if the beeb get in touch I'm going to say it was a UFO scout ship as a prelude to invasion :)

I also sometimes see lights in the sky but it could be all kinds of things, like a laser from a nearby disco or meteorites. Would be something though to see a real UFO...

I see lights in the sky all the time. I suspect the aliens are spying on our modes of transportation. I do live near a major airport, too!!!

Wow, you must be bothered by the noise of the airplanes, no? I have an aunt living near Brussels airport and sometimes her house is even shaking because of the passing planes.

Last friday, a green light was spotted over here , it flew by very slow. Most people think it was a very bright meteor though.

Depending on the distance, it could appear to be traveling very slow.

Interesting that no one here has discussed the former Arizona governor's second reaction. I think his name is ... Fife Symington?

I know what most people see is real, to explain it to other people but making you feel like a fool is another. I had my moment in life a year ago and I mean nothing and I mean nothing can change my mined what I saw. Nothing moves from zero stand still and goes to about 2000 in less than a second that I know of, unless ET was late for a date.
