Not sure Julie. Two things.

Firstly given the sheer distances between the stars, FTL travel would have to be used to make it viable. Who is to say that cannot be outside of our earth bound physics? Secondly it may not be life as we know it with human limitations. All sci fi films have bipeds as they need human actors. When you think about it, a three legged being would be more stable statically on uneven ground, and faster on flat ground. All computer chairs are 5 legged, for stability reasons. Insects don't have six legs for nothing. Come to that even a millipede with a wooden leg manages quite well going .... 98, 99 bonk!

My mother always told me you can't walk on 1 leg:) You could be right I guess but I think if they want to communicate with us, they will do it through telepathy, radiosignals etc because it's physically much easier and cheaper. You never know what budget them aliens have...;)

That's because they were parts of a Russian rocket carrying a communications satellite that fell back to Earth minutes after lift-off. ;-)
