Hello,

this computer was a dual-GPU setup until one of them broke a few months ago.
Now I'm going to replace the defective unit with something else, and I ask for your assistance in finding something suitable.

The main question is: Does anyone know how well a Tesla C870 performs vs another MSI N560GTX-Ti Twin Frozr II/OC? I tried comparing the numbers, but then I thought that this might not be a good idea, because of the different architectures.

If the C870 is not to be recommended, what is currently the GPU with the best price/performance ratio (less than $500), assuming I'm only using this replacement GPU for SETI@home?

Thanks in advance,
Helsionium

Looking on the internet, that card was released in 2007, it is based on a 8800GTX.

I think you will want to look into at least the GTX-660(non-Ti).

Oh I didn't know that the Tesla series is already that old. I also don't understand why a card that old still sells for around € 500 - I can get two GTX 660s for that price.
What is the difference between the Ti and the non-Ti versions? Sorry for asking, but this is not immediately obvious when comparing the numbers.

Biggest difference is the CUDA cores, the 660Ti has 1344 while the 660 has 960.

Does that mean the Ti is around 40% faster?

I'm gonna hazard a (quasi educated) guess and say probably closer to 10-15%

What I DO know is that if cuda cores scaled well and using my 16 core ION as a reference... well a 690 would have to have an RAC of 200,000! :D
