Message 1285317 - Posted: 19 Sep 2012, 3:10:16 UTC

After having to put down our beloved husky about 6 or 7 months ago, Michele and I finally decided to go looking around for a new pet.

We stopped by one of the pet stores about 40 minutes away and saw this adorable little pup with these beautiful blue eyes. We asked to see her so they took the dog out and let us play with her in this little "cube"/visiting area.

This daring little thing grabbed Michele's purse and decided she was going to run off with it! After rescuing the purse from this little purse-napper, Michele picked her up (I was outside the cube) so that I could see her too. This little tyke was on full-scale "buy me" mode as it immediately started giving me kisses on my goatee-covered chin.

Well dang it all! We ended up taking her home with us. We're so excited to have a little puppy to play with again. She's been terrorizing the cat, but the cat used to play with our last husky, so I'm sure she'll eventually learn to get along with this one too.

I've snapped a couple shots on my cell phone for those of you that like to see pics:

She's only 8 weeks old and weights in at a hefty 11 pounds 3 ounces and just received a clean bill of health from the Vet today. She loves to be held and will fall asleep in your arms if you hold her right. She's so energetic and playful too!

It's a good thing we have this cute little addition too, what with the recent family issues Michele started having the day after we brought the puppy home. With Michele's mom being in the hospital so much lately, the puppy is the one thing keeping our spirits high.

Just thought I'd share some of these pics with you all. Thanks for listening.

Congrats on the new pup....
Looks quite lovable indeed.
She's probably gonna be a big gurl, already weighing 11 pounds at 8 weeks!

We're calling her Mikayla, or Mickey for short.

Yeah, she's a little rolley-polley. I suspect that pet stores like to make them bigger to make them look healthier and cuddly. Or it may just be that she's going to be a healthy weight when she gets older, and I'm perfectly OK with that.

He is a little dear, and will keep both of you on your toes.

My 3 Shih-Tzu puppies (1 year old next month) - two boys and a girl from the same litter - keep us running around. A joy I say ...
It's good to be back amongst friends and colleagues

Well, she's not taking to potty training very well... and I hope that there's no limit to shampooing your carpeting without ruining it... though I think it is already ruined from the past two dogs. :(

She's been a bit of a terror today. Knocking over the other dog's water dish all over the tile flooring in the kitchen. She pulled out a surge protector plug from behind me which is powering my AMD Athlon XP 3200+ Windows XP machine next to me. Unfortunately due to a broken piece of side glass (the glass has been removed), she has also been taking all of Michele's collectible Disney characters out of the curio cabinet. I keep trying to redirect her to the chew toys we've bought her, but apparently Disney characters are so much more tasty!

Her and the cat are getting along a little better now. The cat will run along the top of the furniture while Mikayla will try to get her, sort of a game of tag.

When she's not misbehaving, she's already claimed a place behind my computer chair to relax. She also loves sleeping by my feet, which I find so adorable.

Now if only I can get her to understand what going to the bathroom outside means. :-/

Ah memories. Pups do just that. It was a year before my Maggie could be trusted to not chew things that weren't hers, and it was a long month of potty training, with accidents continuing for several months. But in the end it was all worth it. They stop teething and destroying your belongings, and stop messing in the house, and then they get older and older and you forget all about those days until someone talks about their puppy. ;-)

Good luck with her man, you'll be all set soon enough.

No, all of the Disney characters have been pulled out of the bottom shelf of the curio cabinet. They're all sitting on top of Michele's computer right now.

Poor Mickey didn't like us being gone all day yesterday. We came back to a few soiled spots, a destroyed plastic top to some carry-out dinner, and my remote control for my stereo hidden in the closet, and the battery cover to the TV remote hidden in a blanket.

Damn, this dog is pretty smart!

She has learned that going to the bathroom in the house is a bad thing. She tries to hide after she soils a spot, but she hasn't learned to let us know when she needs to use the bathroom so we can take her outside. When we do take her outside, she just lays in the grass and looks up at us like, "What are we doing out here?"

Despite what may come across as negative sounding reports, I'm truly happy to have her. She's getting spoiled by me picking her up and hold her like a baby so she falls asleep faster, and I really like the puppy kisses that have been waking me up the last couple days. I open my blurry eyes to see this blue-eyed little thing wagging her tail so happily, looking at me like, "Wake up! Let's play!" I usually pull her up on the bed and smother her with kisses. We eventually find our way off the bed and play a little tug-o-war with her tug-o-war rope we bought her. :-D

In other news, our poor cat went missing for over a day. She's not an outside cat, and she's a but underweight where if she were to get outside, I'm afraid she'd fall prey to some hungry predator. The thought started scaring Michele and I, so we searched our house trying to find her. After failing to find her, I had resolved myself to thinking she escaped outside somehow and could only hope that she'd find her way back home unharmed.

We informed my younger brother and my step-father (both of whom are currently living with me) that the cat was missing. My brother then went downstairs into our basement to see if she had crawled under the house, and while calling out her name he heard a faint "meow". He kept calling her until he was certain that he was close, but he still couldn't find her. When he finally opened a steel cabinet, our kitty was inside just waiting to come out.

It seems that when my father had gone downstairs a day and a half earlier, he opened the cabinet to get something and he must not have seen the cat crawl in, and closed it behind him.

The poor kitty was a little lighter than usual, so to express our happiness, we fed her a gourmet kitty meal and showered her with a bit of love.

Heh. It seems curiosity almost killed the cat!

I am so glad you found your kitty and that your new puppy is bring you both such joy.

Zsa Zsa is our best, most sneaky, hiding kitty. We have accidentally locked her in the bathroom and in closets before. Now, whenever we leave the house we do a "cat count". If we don't count three, we start shaking the kitty treat bag and opening closets.

I know the feeling, they do like to hide in dark places, Cats seem drawn to closets like nothing else...
