Due the the fact they don't have to worry about being re-elected, isn't it usual for US presidents to be most productive/reformist in their second term ?

In their first term they have to tread softly because they are keeping one eye on the next election. In the second term this worry is removed so they can "go for it".

Sigh..........I don't know where to go here.
Rommer is not gonna be this country's saviour, I know that.
Obummer is even more clearly not the way to go.
Dammit, JFK was the man. Sad he is not here now.

You all try to accuse me of being left of center.

Where the F would some of you have me go, for chrissakes?

There is simply no where left to go, dammit.

My sympathies are with you Mark.

In all countries we have been reduced to a choice between Tweedledum and Tweedle-even-dummer. World wide politics has been trivialised.

Who do you vote for when both both options have their heads planted firmly in their posteriors ? FIIK.

Maybe the answer is to ignore the major parties and vote for an independent. If enough people did that it might scare the majors into putting up good candidates and good policies. Although what would probably happened is that the rules would be jiggered to make it harder for independents or minor parties to run.

I tried that when Lee Iococca ran. I actually thought that as a businessman, he might have had a clue how to run a freaking country.

I admit, I just don't know which way is up right now.

The ditch or the grave........dunno. Sad, that is all the choice we have now.

Or a pleasant one, depending on your take.

I still do not have an answer to the question posed in the thread's title.

Does anybody have some advice for me other than cut and run?

I see two choices here, neither of them acceptable.
Doing nothing is also not acceptable.

Voting for an independant is sexy, but they unfortunately have no chance in the current system.
(That should change, by the way.)

MS -- well, for me, considering the alternatives, I would vote for Obama.

And you see that is a problem for you -- a goodly number of people agree with me, and yes, a number of people agree with you.

As to cut and run, with your view of the world, I doubt there is any place you can or would cut and run to. I mean clearly all of Europe is out. I suspect all of Asia is out. Clearly all of North and South America is out. Australia and NZ also are too 'socialist' for you. Perhaps some countries in Africa or the Middle East might fit though.

I suppose you could be true to your religious faith and let god sort it out for you.

Reports all over the place that New York's Attorney General, Eric Schneiderman, is invetigating 12 investment firms including Bain Capital, Mitt Romney's firm, about aggresive tax strategies in order to slice hundreds of millions of dollars from their tax bills.

I have seen the Stories in NY Times, and in the Telegraph, Mail and FT in the UK.

I've gathered that Mark doesn't want a strong central government with the powers to tax and regulate industry and trade.

He doesn't want part of his income used for welfare programs or health care that is run as a universal single payer plan.

He doesn't want gun control and leans toward the Nuggent vision of everybody being armed at all times.

If the state of politics in the US has him thinking of relocating, I suggest a move to Somalia.
Everything Mark wants can be found there. I hope he finds happiness in his new home.

Chris, well MS suggested the possibility of cutting and running -- so some degree of speculation regarding 'run to' seems appropriate. It is simply that his views make for some interesting speculation.

I am voting for Obama. I have actually done better under his Presidency and we've both seen a significant rise in our incomes.

I copied this from the Facebook wall of The Norman Goldman Show

Our FB friend Shaun M. Smith sent me this as a message - it's too good not to share! Thank YOU, Shaun!

Hello republicans here are a few facts for you contemplate:

After The 8 Years Of The Bush/Cheney Disaster, Now You decide to loose your dam mind?

You didn't get mad when the Supreme Court stopped a legal recount and appointed a President.

You didn't get mad when Cheney allowed Energy company officials to dictate Energy policy and push us to invade Iraq.

You didn't get mad whe
n a covert CIA operative got outed.

You didn't get mad when the Patriot Act got passed.

You didn't get mad when we illegally invaded a country that posed no threat to us.

You didn't get mad when Bush borrowed more money from foreign sources than the previous 42 Presidents combined.

You didn't get mad when over 10 billion dollars in cash just disappeared in Iraq.

You didn't get mad when you found out we were torturing people.

You didn't get mad when Bush embraced trade and outsourcing policies that shipped 6 million American jobs out of the country.

You didn't get mad when the government was illegally wiretapping Americans.

You didn't get mad when we didn't catch Bin Laden.

You didn't get mad when Bush rang up 10 trillion dollars in combined budget and current account deficits.

You didn't get mad when you saw the horrible conditions at Walter Reed.

You didn't get mad when we let a major US city, New Orleans, drown.

You didn't get mad when we gave people who had more money than they could spend, the filthy rich, over a trillion dollars in tax breaks.

You didn't get mad with the worst 8 years of job creations in several decades.

You didn't get mad when over 200,000 US Citizens lost their lives because they had no health insurance.
You didn't get mad when lack of oversight and regulations from the Bush Administration caused US Citizens to lose 12 trillion dollars in investments, retirement, and home values.

You finally got mad when a black man was elected President and decided that people in America deserved the right to see a doctor if they are sick.

Yes, illegal wars, lies, corruption, torture, job losses by the millions, stealing your tax dollars to make the rich richer, and the worst economic disaster since 1929 are all okay with you, but helping fellow Americans who are sick...Oh, Hell No!!
I do not fight fascists because I think I can win.
I fight them because they are fascists.

I guess Marks initial post with keywords: Obama, dictator, remove, what ever means; has already being filtered by CIA, FBI crunchers for possible risk?!

So I heard that super crunchers there to filter every digital trace of any interest.
