There is something about the North American great plains that makes people give towns funny names... LOL! We just returned from Cornucopia, Wisconsin - and if you envision a cornucopia filled largely with trees (poplar, birch, maple and some pines), then the town is appropriately named. (It is a beautiful area though - warm, friendly people, great tracts of unspoiled nature... and snow - lots and lots of snow.) |

We have town named Doodstil, Dorst and Biggenkerke. Porkville? That beats the heck out of Yermo, Its name is derived from the Spanish word for wilderness. The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |

Speaking of odd place names, I have a shipmate from my first boat who lives in Weed, California, up near Mt. Shasta (and yes, I think he does...). And south of Bakersfield are two towns called Weedpatch and Pumpkin Center. I've had lunch in all three. Donald Infernal Optimist / Submariner, retired |

Rough N Ready California Timbuktu California, and an almost town called Maybe, California(back in frontier days they probably were not sure if it was nevada or california) of course Azusa(everything from A-Z in the USA)Paradise(named after the Pair-O-Dice Saloon)... ah the list goes on.
