Not sure how that happened but all power to Nissan, not sure it's a good thing

They don't look bad to Me, as long as their safe and comfortable for the driver and any passengers, plus cheap on gas(petrol).

Yes specifically built for safety and emissions and "the NV200 is claimed to offer "50 per cent" better economy than today’s most economical London cab"

Also has room for a wheelchair. And sockets to recharge mobile phones!!

Nissan are also working on an electric version.

Apparently the NV200 is also the default cab in Toyko.

Looks like the NYC taxi version costs `from $29000`
There is no way i am going to buy any of them for my town,
people refuse to get in a black cab as it is,
they think it is a `foriehn` taxi doing work in their town.
Fule consumption, ha ha ha
Lets see it guzel gas with the rest of us on things called `hills` in cumbria.
I am sure it is nice and new and all that stuff
But have they also addressed the problem of how to get vomit out of the corners and the carpet and other trimmings i hope are super easy clean material.
I have been driving a taxi for to long to get enthusiastic about `new` products.

I think it is very sad that the UK automobile industry cannot come up with a home grown equivalent that is just as good. But I forgot, the trade unions scuppered all that many years ago. But to be fair Nissan has a long UK history.

In early 1950s, Nissan partnered with an established European company to gain access to up-to-date automobile and engine designs. Nissan chose Austin of the United Kingdom, which later became the British Motor Corporation by its merger with Morris et al. Nissan began building Austin 7s in 1930, though the legitimacy of their license at that time is debated.

by 1955, the Austin A50 – completely built by Nissan and featuring a slightly larger body with new 1489 cc engine—was on the market in Japan. Nissan produced 20,855 Austins from 1953–1959.

The vehicle seems to be the most cost effective at the moment, but I don't like it in principle.

Does that mean cheaper fares?

As I believe the Taxi owners/drivers pay for the fuel, possibly not. The new taxis will cost more than the old FX4 but will be more fuel efficient. So I suggest getting in a London cab and asking the driver, as he will probably be making more money in the future if he would mind if you don't give him a tip!!

Bernie my 'ol son, knowing down to earth London cabbies, I would recommend wearing earplugs as he reverses over your feet. You might also get some enlightening news about your parentage :-)))

I remember from my visit to London that cabs were these antique looking cars. They were cosy to sit in.

We saw many that were something other than plain black. Many had advertising wraps. We saw two pink ones (on the same street at the same time - no mistake). One that had a watch gear paint job (or possibly wrap). And many others. Admittedly, the one that we rode in (at 2 in the morning getting to our hotel) was black.

The NY cabbies got a few gas electric hybrids a few years ago. Apparently, they were so popular that they commanded a higher daily price from the dispatchers...

Something i saw last year, that i wish i'd got a picture of, was an LTI Taxi, completely painted in Green Flag advertising... on the back of an AA lorry!

(Green Flag and the AA are rival breakdown services, for any foreign readers.)
