I have several astropulse tasks in my queue that are not being processed by my GPU. I believe this is because I have an ATI GPU and the astropulse tasks aren't labeled either: ati_opencl or opencl_ati First question, am I correct in why they aren't being processed by my GPU? If I am correct, my second question is, would it be beneficial from a max credit standpoint to cancel these non ati Astropulse tasks so that my CPU doesn't have to take 30 hours to crunch them? Meaning is it better to let the CPU process the regular tasks vs. wasting all the time on the AP tasks? Or will I get equivalent credit spending 30 hours on 1 AP task vs. 30 hours on 10 3 hour tasks. |

When tasks are downloaded, they are requested for a specific resource that BOINC needs to fulfill with crunching. So yes, if your AstroPulse workunits were not downloaded for your GPU, then they won't be crunched on your GPU. Personally, I think everyone should crunch what they get and not worry about cherry-picking what workunits will get them the most credits. Most people frown upon that. |

You get credit for the processing done. The credit for the shorter MB tasks will in total approximately match the credit for the longer AP task. BOINC WIKI |

Thanks for the replies. So just to confirm, there is nothing I can do to get my GPU to process those AP tasks? It's controlled on the server side what AP tasks should be processed by a GPU? And that is good to know about the total credit approximately matching between long and short tasks. I was mainly worried I would, for example, get 150 credit for a 3 hour task and also get 150 credit for the 30 hour AP task. As long as it's roughly the same I'm fine with it. |

No, it's not controlled server side. When your local BOINC client sees that one of your resources (GPU, CPU) needs more work, it will specifically request work for that resource when it contacts the server. Once it is downloaded to your machine and scheduled to run on that specific resource, it shouldn't be moved to a different resource or you can screw up BOINC's internal scheduling system. |
