Tony Scott younger brother of Ridley Scott died age 68.

It seems like suicide.

What a loss.

RIP Tony Scott.

It is a shame - so much talent, so much still to do. But the news says he left a note, and had recently been diagnosed with ternimal brain cancer.

Guess he wanted to go out on his own terms, while he still could make that choice.

Yeah I can sympathize, My Brother eventually had Brain Cancer, but He could almost not stand long before that and was largely an invalid from 1/2004 to 5/2005 due to Emphysema/Lung Cancer...

I can understand why he made that choice. He could also have chosen for euthanasia of course.

I've read that his family says he had no cancer. The reasons for which one takes his own life are mostly unscrutable. I've lost two friends by suicide while young. One was a good pianist, who had won an international prize.

Two great physicists committed suicide, Ludwig Boltzmann and Ettore Majorana, But the list could be long. My father, an officer in the Alpine Corps sent in Russia by Mussolini, told me that, in the disastrous retreat, officers would commit suicide while simple soldiers carried on in the hope of going home. All this was narrated by Mario Rigoni Stern in his book "Sergeant in the snow".

Same here. You wonder, forever after, what, if anything, you might have done different to prevent it. What clue did I miss, how did I not see it coming? The (undeserved) guilt can destroy you if you let it.

But for us, the living, life must go on....

+1

I lost a brother in that sad manner.
And those questions have haunted me ever after.
And that was some 37 years ago.

A relative of mine, the wife of my sailing brother, was once called on the phone by another sailor's wife, her husband at sea, She was busy that day and could not meet the calling woman, who committed suicide that night. She felt guilty, but I told her that the decision was not taken on the moment, it was taken before.
