i have not gotten any work from seti for ages...anyone know what's going on? climate and einstein are running, so i know my boinc connection is working but i'm not getting anything for set, rosetta, milky way, or LHC. thanks Intelligence is not necessarily an evolutionary advantage |

What are your resource shares for each project? Climate Prediction tends to throw off most other projects due to the really long workunit sizes. |

Which version of BOINC? 7 has a different method for determining a full queue than 6 does. BOINC WIKI |

Are you running BOINC all day and night, or are you shutting either BOINC or the computer down? Are you allowing BOINC to run when the computer is in use? What are your settings for the minimum buffer and maximum additional buffer? You only have a Core2Duo, so only 2 CPU cores. One is busy with a long-running CPDN model, the other got an Einstein BRP4, which are also known for their lengthy run-time. So it's very much possible that BOINC is at this moment already in some form of panic mode (although BOINC 7.0 doesn't really get in panic mode ;-)), and is deciding that you've got work enough for now. It's not going to download work from anywhere when that work or the work already in cache is then eligible to pass deadline without being done. |

is there a way to allocate resources to allow more than 2 projects to run at one time? also, do you have any idea why i no longer have anything showing on my 'transfers' page? it is completely empty. Intelligence is not necessarily an evolutionary advantage |

is there a way to allocate resources to allow more than 2 projects to run at one time? The most efficient way for the client to run tasks is one per CPU for single threaded tasks. Multi-threaded tasks will take more than one CPU / task. GPU tasks will take a Graphics card / task. If you have a 2 CPU system, or a 1 CPU system with 1 graphics card, then the answer is there is nothing you can or should be doing to run more than 2 at a time. It appears from your computers list that you have a 2 CPU system with no usable GPU. If this is the case, then there is nothing you can do short of buying hardware, which is an option, but not one I will recommend - unless you need it for something else the computer needs to do. The transfers page only shows files that are in the process of, waiting to, or stalled while transferring either onto or off of your computer. If it is blank, then there are no files being transferred at the moment. This is a perfectly normal state. [edit] It appears you have a Core 2 Duo. This should be hyperthreading capable. If that is true, you can turn on hyperthreading. this will report 4 CPUs to the operating system which will be used by the BOINC client. Unfortunately with hyperthreading, each task will run a bit slower, but you should see an overall throughput gain of about 40% (+ or - 30%). BOINC WIKI |

Core 2 Duo's do not have Hyperthreading. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyper-threading The hyper-threading technology found its roots in Digital Equipment Corporation[4] but was brought to the market by Intel. Hyper-Threading was first introduced in the Foster MP-based Xeon in March 2002. It appeared on the 3.06 GHz Northwood-based Pentium 4 in the same year, and then appeared in every Pentium 4 HT, Pentium 4 Extreme Edition and Pentium Extreme Edition processor. Previous generations of Intel's processors based on the Core microarchitecture do not have Hyper-Threading, because the Core microarchitecture is a descendant of the P6 microarchitecture used in iterations of Pentium since the Pentium Pro through the Pentium III and the Celeron (Covington, Mendocino, Coppermine and Tualatin-based) and the Pentium II Xeon and Pentium III Xeon models. |

hey john - thanks for the help! if you don't mind perhaps you would indulge me by answering one more question: any idea why both my picture and my signature have gone away? Intelligence is not necessarily an evolutionary advantage |

hey john - Check your settings. If the signature included an image, it would be a link to someplace else on the web. The image should be uploaded to the S@H server though. Every project is independent. Therefore, each project has its own settings. Did you get them right at all of the projects at which you post? BOINC WIKI |

i did upload the pic to s@h and it had been displaying properly. i hadn't posted it to any of the other sites. signature was text only... oh well, it's not a big deal. i'll just redo it. thanks for your thoughts and your help. lenette Intelligence is not necessarily an evolutionary advantage |
