After too many months of too much work and no spare time, the power is out, and now I have time to blog. Ah, the life of a scientist. We typically have more ideas than time. So for this blog entry, I'm making it quick. I'm just going to list 10 facts and let you figure out what it's about until I get to the end:

I give up! Why is the earthworm on this list? (Seriously) And that last one! The finality of it! The horror! The horror!:) You could have at least sugar-coated it for us... "Unless humanity becomes a race of colonizing spacefarers blah bla blah". But nooooo, you just had to spoil the end of the movie;) |

I've heard the earthworm or a another non-human animal used as a foil to the prior one. In the political arena it's supposed to indicate that not every beating heart is of equal value. The earthworm might disagree... ;) ![]() ![]() |

I notice the lack of a quantifier on fact #10. Every other fact contains a mathematical statement or relation. Was this intentional? |

I notice the lack of a quantifier on fact #10. Every other fact contains a mathematical statement or relation. Was this intentional? How well can we predict the future? Based on current knowledge, sooner or later, EVERYTHING dies. Species go extinct, whether we notice it or not. Eventually, if the Sun follows other similar stars, it will expand and engulf Earth, destroying all life on it. Some cosmologists predict the Universe will reach a maximum expansion, and begin to contract back into the original singularity from wence the Big Bang erupted. The Universe will cease to exist, and all life will go extinct. Donald Infernal Optimist / Submariner, retired |

According to some physicists there are multiple Universes. This idea is contained also in some Veda books. On Nature of August 23 there is an article whose title is "Sometimes science must give way to religion". It was written by an atheist after visiting the Angkor temples in Cambodia.Read it. Tullio |

At least we will be represented. The worms eat us all. They will eventually incorporate some of our DNA in theirs. Life goes on....with a message in it. |

the human species will face extinction due to self destruction but maybe that's not so bad (from nature's point of view), it doesn't feel like a pleasant thing to look forward to. but hey "we did it to ourself" As long there are easy money-making opportunity's with for example; obsolete techniques that rely on fossil fuel I don't think a mentality-change is upon us. |

The one hitch in nuclear is what do you do with the waste. A possible answer to this is phase 4 nuclear. The thorium fuel cycle reactor, wich comes in several flavors and most of the research has been done in the us. sadly the funding for this was cut to little then none under reagan then clenton. currently terra power and half a dozen other company's are trying to revive this option, though only india currently has working reactors. When the next generation of nuclear reactors can burn the waste of the last then you are wright nuclear is safer hands down wonder why it is only happening some were else kinda makes ya think. |

At least we have a choice. I don't think the worm have much to say about the future. And when it comes to energy we do have alot of wind on this planet. It blows every other day everywhere. And we do have alot of sunny days at most places on this planet. But will we find ET out there.....? Keep searching and one day... |

At least we have a choice. ========================================================================== If you do the number's only tidal wave power and nuclear have the terra watt capacity to get us through to fusion or other long term prospects. Tidal power would have to be massive, phase 4 nuclear could burn existing waste. And don't mock the earth worm, can you eat sand with a little bio waste and pup fertilizer:) |

At least we have a choice. How much sun do the earth recieve in 24hours?? How much wind blows in 24hours. I'd say there is enough sun and wind. But you guys who loves radioactive waste can continue to produce it. I won't try to stop you, that is a promise. And I do apologize to the worm, but I don't think it will understand me. |

Maybe Eric is saying why do any of us bother to fight and disagree, when we will all be gone one day anyway? In the meantime ..... The UK has just produced its new Energy Bill.

At least we have a choice. A swedish puplication unfortunatly in swedish. http://www.energimyndigheten.se/Global/Statistik/Energil%C3%A4get/Energil%C3%A4get%20i%20siffror%202012.pdf They do express the numbers in Tera Watt. Bio, Wind and waterpower A detailed overwiev will be released in english in Jan 2013 called "energy in sweden". The 2011-2012 swedish version is... http://www.energimyndigheten.se/Global/Statistik/Energil%C3%A4get/Energil%C3%A4get%20i%20siffror%202012.pdf All is showing that Sweden will reach the 2020 EU-Goals and beyond. Sweden still produces alot of radiactive waste.... |
