the ver 7 and above (or what ever ver 7 tried many times, this LT is 100% OK) on yours dl page does not even start at all on this LapTop. So I am tied to version 6.smth. I have tried everything and you can bet your moneys I would think that as a Professor you would appreciate clarity through information (i.e. "wordy") than to simply correct someone without an explanation. I hope you don't teach like you post. Thank you. Good day. ;)

I would think that as a Professor you would appreciate clarity through information (i.e. "wordy") than to simply correct someone without an explanation. I hope you don't teach like you post. This is not a teaching situation. Provide the info first. Then, if needed, follow up.

I would think that as a Professor you would appreciate clarity through information (i.e. "wordy") than to simply correct someone without an explanation. I hope you don't teach like you post. Seems it would be easier to just provide so no follow-up is necessary. Indeed, as a Professor you should be advocating that all of life is a teaching situation.

Hello everyone, this is a friendly reminder to stay on the original topic. The New AstroPulse applications for GPUs. Thank you.

With the new applications the ap tasks will be don by the devices that crunch them best. Leaving the cpu's to do the MB tasks and MB .VLAR tasks which they do best.

It appears to me that the files being done via GPU are being credited, as my average is about 25% higher now. However, I did notice one thing, on certain files, it uses .05 CPU and it does the decoding in 20 minutes or so, and then I get certain files where is says .04 CPU, and does not the GPU as well, but it takes about 3 hours to process, and instead of the percentage going up as finished conintuously, it takes a few minutes, between larger percentage blocks of completion, IE, from 5 percent and then 9 percent instead of 5, 5.1, 5.2, etc.

This thread about automatically distributed app. No user action required. I think he was asking (as I am) if we're already running the Lunatics platform, should we just stick with it or revert to the official platform so that it updates to the new optimized one? And will Lunatics continue to be updated in parallel with the official one? I will have a look at those other two threads but as this one is directly linked from the Notices entry in the BOINC client it would be good to have the info here. ____________ “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.” --- Margaret Mead

We've released the first of four new AstroPulse Windows applications for ATI/AMD Graphics Processing Units that support the OpenCL language. If you've got an one of these GPUs you may be able to process AstroPulse results 15x faster than your CPU alone. If your computer supports a version, it should get it automatically. Got 6870 cf and no work, is it because i'm runnin on boinc 6.12.34 x64. Ati driver is 12.6

Will there be Mac OSX programs for using GPU's? I have an i7 iMac and Collatz uses the GPU very effectively.

Sorry. I meant to add that I have an ATI Radeon 5750 GPU.

The first App works fine, but has a bugg in it. When the work file first startes the time remaing column counts down as it should. As soon as the Percent done column starts counting, then the Time remaining column starts to count upwards for several minutes before it releases. When the happens the original time is still slowly incrementing upwards. Let's say there is 1 hr. and 15 min. left to process. The 15 min will increment for 2 to 3 minutes and then release and the original 15 minutes will now be 16 minutes left. Please take a look at this issue, since the program otherwise works fine. I used to spend 30 to 40 hours on a AstroPulse 6 file which is tedious and a waste of resources. Now it takes 1 hr. and 14 min to 3.5 hours to complete the task. Good work who ever did this App.

I've seen this on plenty of projects. It's related to the fudge factor used to estimate the time remaining. The change in direction occurs because without an estimate of completion (i think they call those checkpoints), the BOINC client only has elapsed time as an indication of progress.

This thread about automatically distributed app. No user action required. I see. Then answer on this question: 1. If you already using opt apps better to stay with opt apps. 2. Yes, we will make opt app releases under anonymous platform first. Why we go to stock too: it has MUCH (that much should be much much bigger) coverage. That is, much more GPUs will be involved to help SETI. Even if app in stock release working in less optimized config, this coverage will outweight all and will result in project speedup. But for users who watch for their hosts and can deal with anonymous platform it's definitelly better to use all host potential that possible only via running on anonymous platform. So, consider this thread for "stockers" only.

Good work who ever did this App. Consider it as "feature" ;). This will not fixed in near future. App informs BOINC about its progress not so frequently as BOINC updates its state so BOINC counts on itself between updates. Hence you see such progress state changes.
