We've released the first of four new AstroPulse Windows applications for ATI/AMD Graphics Processing Units that support the OpenCL language. If you've got an one of these GPUs you may be able to process AstroPulse results 15x faster than your CPU alone. If your computer supports a version, it should get it automatically.

I notice some people got download errors on the file "AstroPulse_Kernels_r1316.cl" I don't see any errors in the web logs on our download servers, and most people seem to be downloading successfully. I'm hoping it's a glitch that has only happened for the first few results.

We've released the first of four new AstroPulse Windows applications for ATI/AMD Graphics Processing Units that support the OpenCL language. If you've got an one of these GPUs you may be able to process AstroPulse results 15x faster than your CPU alone These apps are actually newer than the apps that were in the 0.40 installer. But you can get the updated apps directly from Lunatics and edit your app_info.xml file with the new names. http://lunatics.kwsn.net/12-gpu-crunching/ap6-r1363-for-gpu.0.html ____________

I just literally spent the past two days trying to figure out how to get the Lunatic stuff installed and just figured out the whole command line thing... good timing on my part!

and WTF is up with the format of this thread (the most recent post at the top instead of the bottom like usual)? lol

will this be an automatic update?

But you can get the updated apps directly from Lunatics and edit your app_info.xml file with the new names. Isn't this r1363? Eric's post implies the released version is r1316, which is the one I'm currently using. r1363 still looks like a test version to me. ____________ Soli Deo Gloria

Sorry for not knowing much about these things. I jsut want to help computing. Is there anythin i need to download or by new hardware inorder to be able to compute astropulses 15x faster? or is it enough having my "NVIDIA GeForce 310 512MB"?

But you can get the updated apps directly from Lunatics and edit your app_info.xml file with the new names. r1363 has same compute path but just added ability to switch to prior r1316 compute path for FFA + few more switches to yield CPU in hope to reduce CPU usage for NV and some of ATi configs. So far there is no evidence that these new switches are "must have" ones + it's shown (by you too) that r1316 compute path is better for most of GPUs so ability to use older path is also not "must have" one. In short, all past r1316 is optional for now, but quite operational.

Uhmmm...SURE could use one of them BIG RED BUTTONs saying Then perhaps you could just act on topic of this thread. This thread about stock app release that will be downloaded on your host automatically as long as it meets requirements. No action required from you at all, this thread just for INFO, not for "non-geeks" to do anything new.

No action required from you on this topic. But if you would like to get involved, you could wait when NV AstroPulse stock app will be released, see if it will be downloaded by your host then or not, see how well or not well it will run on your host and report your experience back to us in this or other corresponding thread.

will this be an automatic update? yes, stock app updated automatically as long as one not using anonymous platform mechanism. And for answerring on next usual question: by default you not using anonymous platform mechanism. Only those who used Lunatics installer before or manually install app_info file will use anonymous platform. Vast majority of users use stock.

I just literally spent the past two days trying to figure out how to get the Lunatic stuff installed and just figured out the whole command line thing... good timing on my part! This thread about automatically distributed app. No user action required. If you want to go to anonymous platform and can't get familiar with Lunatics installer then it's better to write in this http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=67407 or this http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=68675 thread. This one about so called stock app that doesn't require to be downloaded by user, it will be downloaded automatically as long as host meets requirements.

So, if we want to use just these new apps, how would we go about it? Do we just let it download and do its thing, or should we somehow uninstall everything and reload it all? Depends on if you want to use the stock applications or the optimized ones. ->If the optimized ones, you'll have to go back to the Number Crunching forum and ask how to add the new apps to your app_info.xml file. ->If the stock applications, then exit BOINC completely, next navigate to your BOINC data directory (default at C:\Programdata\BOINC\), \projects\setiathome.berkeley.edu\ and delete the app_info.xml file. Next restart BOINC (Start->All programs->BOINC->BOINC Manager), advanced view, Projects tab, select Seti@Home and click Reset. Acknowledge the reset. Done. A word of warning though, resetting deletes all applications and associated work from your computer. But since Seti has "resend lost work" on, it should send you the work again, only this time for the stock applications. ____________ Jord - BOINC FAQ Service - BOINC User Wiki Real is just a matter of perception.

If we're already using the Open CL from the optimizers, should we stick with this? If you're using the optimizer's version you can stick with it. They may have something newer than what I just released. ____________

I assume it will be almost impossible to go AP only now when AP GPU is going stock.

I assume it will be almost impossible to go AP only now when AP GPU is going stock. its already "almost impossible" to crunch AP only. i gave up on running AP only (and gave into running a mix of AP and MB) b/c my GPUs sat idle more often than they received and did work. so yes, its going to be even more "impossible" to run AP only now that the GPU app has gone stock...that is, unless the powers that be plan on massively ramping up AP results production (which we probably already would have heard about through the typical forum banter were there actual plans to do so). ____________
