I have one computer on my account that is out of tasks and when I click the UPDATE for the project, it returns the message "Won't get new tasks". the problem is unique to this computer and does not happen on other computers on the account. What is going on? How do I get it to start receiving tasks again? |

What projects are you attached to? Do any of them have tasks on your computer? What are your queue settings? BOINC WIKI |

I click allow new tasks yet they still do not download. This new BOINC app seems to be rather badly setup in terms of defaults. |

Servers (or Network/Routers/Switches) at SETI lab had have problems for ~9 hours (see the low green on the graph): http://fragment1.berkeley.edu/newcricket/grapher.cgi?target=%2Frouter-interfaces%2Finr-250%2Fgigabitethernet2_3;ranges=d;view=octets  - ALF - "Find out what you don't do well ..... then don't do it!" :)  |

My computer does not show any work units for Seti. On the website however I can find that my computer has 20 task available waiting for processing. If they do not show on my computer they will never be processed. How can I fix this. My computer is running fine on Rosetta right now but it should run Seti as well. |

Simply put these are "Ghosts". S@H thinks they were sent to you, but they never arrived, and there is nothing that you can do to get them to arrive :-( Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |

The ghost will expire, and then you should get some new tasks, or if you are really lucky you may get them as "live" resends. If you push your cache up by a day you might be able to convince BOINC to let you have a few in advance. I've also run out of work, and getting "Deferred Communication" but SETI says I have 103 tasks sent to me that I'm possessing. Not sure where 96 of them are, but not on my computers. I assume they are ghosts as I read earlier in this thread. Is there a reason this happens and can I do something so it doesn't happen again - because this will post as errors on my part when the ghosts time-out right! I'm running WIN7, BOINC 7.0.28, and I'll increase the cache from 2 days. Any help is much appreciated! Lance & Chris |

Your computer sends a request for more work to the server. The server receives the request, and allocates some tasks to your computer. The reply telling your computer that it has been assigned work then get lost (usually due to congestion at the server end). The good news is that since SETI has resend lost work units turned on (at least it did the last time I heard), these tasks will be sent to you again the next time that computer requests work (assuming that they have not already timed out). Thanks for the info - but here is a new one; I'm on-line and waiting for more work and I went to the assigned page for my computers and it says That I'm assigned 3 or 4 work tasks that timed out in just a few minutes and I still have no work. Assigned on Friday the 9th and timed out a few minutes later! Gremlins!! NO-REALLY it's gremlins! :-) Thanks again! |

John: You said that SETI has (reload lost work) turned on - how can I take advantage if this? I was able to get about 20 very small jobs (6 mins ea) of work for one of my computers but it's all new tasks none of the older work that my "RESULTS" pages say I'm working on and that really isn't in the computers. Did they turn it off again or do I have to do something to re-initiate the download? If they had a "Re-download" or "Update" button on the results page we could help SETI clear the ghost files off the server. It could check to see if the computer requesting the download is the original unit it sent the task to and adjust the finish date if say it's just a few days away... Just a suggestion. Thanks for all your help! Lance |

S@H keeps sending me tasks but they are all ghost tasks. I have over 70 of them and therefor I am not running any tasks. I have streched the request for work to be received to 10 days but they all end up as ghosts. What can I do? |

Hi, I haven't received any work for S@H for nearly 4 days. It's been running fine up until now. Requests for update defer communications for 5 minutes. Is this an S@H thing or possibly BOINC? Ideas? Thanks Seer |
