SETI@Home needs an unscience board for threads such as this, it has no place here. I don't agree! Guys just remember where you are! This SETI project Searches for Extraterrestrial Intelligence. In plain English, thats Aliens! The science that is carried out by the people who run this project is very left wing. Its NOT mainstream science. So don't be putting yourselves up on a pedestal thinking what goes on here is normal, because its not! Its hunting for aliens, no matter what way you look at it! So until somebody, anybody at all, finds life outside of planet earth, every search method is just as valid as the next. Searching for UFO's is very important science. I'm never going to do this myself. But i'm very glad that other people do search for UFO's. If nobody tried to take pictures or video of UFO's then we would simply never know. So be glad that somebody is doing it. Even if you yourself don't believe in them! It doesn't matter how we find life outside Earth, so long as we find it. And i don't care if its NASA, SETI, UFO hunters, or the Catholic church that is the first to make the first contact. Just as long as there are lots of people trying DIFFERENT search methods. Don't knock someone else's search method because they might be the ones to succeed! UFO hunting is valid science, even if you don't like it! John. ____________

Yes, Johnney, we're looking for intelligent life in the Universe other than our own.

So don't be putting yourselves up on a pedestal thinking what goes on here is normal, because its not! Its hunting for aliens, no matter what way you look at it! Radio receivers and signal analysis are left-wing now? Someone better tell Mark when he comes back. Oh, and the military. :^p Completely ridiculous statement. As for your second ridiculous statement: Why would you think that this project is in any way not "mainstream science" when it's being - run by a major, public, accredited university that has produced 22 Nobel laureates (Gee, ya think they might know what science is and isn't?) - by scientists - using scientific methodology and open platforms - funded by scientific institutions - and all findings are to be published and subject to peer review? What's abnormal about digital analysis on radio telescope data looking for narrowband signals? Heck, they teach it in electrical engineering. Sigh. ____________ “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.” --- Margaret Mead

I will tell you why! While we, the users of this forum, might all feel very comfortable sitting around chatting about alien hunting, its still not mainstream science. We, the users of this forum, and the scientists who run this project, all understand that its legitimate science. But the vast majority of the general public don't understand and have never given any thought to how or why a scientist might look for aliens. John. ____________

Yes, us babbling about the project in the forum isn't science/scientific. Certainly I doubt anyone will have any beef with that. Unfortunately, that isn't what you wrote: The science that is carried out by the people who run this project is very left wing. Its NOT mainstream science.(emphasis mine.) And how the heck is radio astronomy "very left wing"? Talk about politicizing... ____________ “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.” --- Margaret Mead

Why??? I will tell you why! While we, the users of this forum, might all feel very comfortable sitting around chatting about alien hunting, its still not mainstream science. We, the users of this forum, and the scientists who run this project, all understand that its legitimate science. It is legitimate science to be looking for alien signals using agreed upon methods. It is not legitimate science to be discussing lights in the sky or Area 51.

We, the users of this forum, and the scientists who run this project, all understand that its legitimate science. Why not? If there are lights in the sky, we better find out what they are! If something happened at area 51, its best the US government come clean and tell us! John. ____________

Why??? I will tell you why! While we, the users of this forum, might all feel very comfortable sitting around chatting about alien hunting, its still not mainstream science. We, the users of this forum, and the scientists who run this project, all understand that its legitimate science. Because both have been thoroughly debunked time and time again. It stops being science and starts becoming conspiracy theory when people refuse to acknowledge the data but instead prefer to believe the stories.

Stephen Greer hasnt found anything but a drowned monkey carcass. He has officially been pulling a no show on the lecture circut. If Stanton Friedman says he doesnt trust his results hes probally right.

This thread has been fun and alot of skeptical people would like to know is ET visiting or not.Myself Im in a wait and see mode, I want to belive that yes there is other beings capible of travel to other stars. Someday we as species will have to build an ARK to save us when in 3 billion years when we collide headon into the Andromada Galaxy. In 5 billion years our sun will doom the earth by its death throes of throwing off its surface and expands all the way to mars orbit.

I'm pretty certain that no skeptical people are wondering if we're being visited by aliens. Skeptical people tend to look at the data, they take each piece of evidence individually and carefully examine it for accuracy, then come to a conclusion such as, "I see no reason to believe aliens have been visiting our planet at any point in our history".

And we had a good laugh. Thanks for the update Larry, John. ____________

Myself I listened to a few videos on Steven Greer but didnt put much faith in his ideas. He got caught up with a carcass he couldnt explain. He got bilked by the Brazian guy that sold it to him. He had big money backers. Think that is along the lines of "a fool and his money are soon separated"..

I've been pretty skeptical of Dr. Greer's latest claim. Saw this current article, in which he cites expert opinions about the nature of the body, and treats the matter as still viable. I share it for whatever it may be worth. http://www.ufodigest.com/article/dr-greer-researches-possible-et-body
