This morning, as I look at "My Account" I notice 71 W/Us "In Progress". However, when I check both my machines I find they only have 4 W/Us each in their cache. So, I'm wondering if they might still be trying to download or have some W/Us just gone missing. I did have some problems this morning with "HTTP:" errors. Something about "server may be down". My Event Log covers about 3h 15m so I'd rather not post it here because of its size but will be glad to send it to a private box. I've never seen this happen before. Thanks, Dave |

Are you only looking at workunits "in progress" in BOINC Manager? By default, the workunits cached on your computer that still need to be processed are not shown. |

I have the preference in BOINC Mgr set to "Show All Tasks". Since I wrote the 1st msg all 8 W/Us that I had in my cache have finished and now the "In Progress" in "My Account" shows 63. But none of those W/Us are on my machine (My FX computer id is on all of them). Checking several of them I see that someone else has already completed their processing and are waiting of me to finish and turn in my results. But I have none to turn in. Here's the 1st page of "My Account" showing the 1st 20 that I cannot find anywhere else: All tasks for Dave HOME PARTICIPATE ABOUT COMMUNITY ACCOUNT STATISTICS Dave | log out Next 20 State: All (147) • In progress (63) • Pending (70) • Valid (12) • Invalid (0) • Error (2) Application: All (147) • Astropulse v505 (0) • AstroPulse v6 (0) • SETI@home Enhanced (147) • SETI@home v7 (0) Task click for details Show names Work unit click for details Computer Sent Time reported or deadline explain Status Run time (sec) CPU time (sec) Credit Application 2539261364 1007408091 5332598 26 Jul 2012 | 14:33:15 UTC 11 Sep 2012 | 20:14:58 UTC In progress --- --- --- SETI@home Enhanced v6.10 (cuda_fermi) 2539261363 1007556425 5332598 26 Jul 2012 | 14:33:15 UTC 11 Sep 2012 | 9:38:39 UTC In progress --- --- --- SETI@home Enhanced v6.10 (cuda_fermi) 2539261362 1007408141 5332598 26 Jul 2012 | 14:33:15 UTC 11 Sep 2012 | 20:14:58 UTC In progress --- --- --- SETI@home Enhanced v6.10 (cuda_fermi) 2539261361 1007408135 5332598 26 Jul 2012 | 14:33:15 UTC 11 Sep 2012 | 20:14:58 UTC In progress --- --- --- SETI@home Enhanced v6.10 (cuda_fermi) 2539261360 1007408129 5332598 26 Jul 2012 | 14:33:15 UTC 11 Sep 2012 | 20:14:58 UTC In progress --- --- --- SETI@home Enhanced v6.10 (cuda_fermi) 2539261359 1007408099 5332598 26 Jul 2012 | 14:33:15 UTC 11 Sep 2012 | 20:14:58 UTC In progress --- --- --- SETI@home Enhanced v6.10 (cuda_fermi) 2539261358 1007408093 5332598 26 Jul 2012 | 14:33:15 UTC 11 Sep 2012 | 20:14:58 UTC In progress --- --- --- SETI@home Enhanced v6.10 (cuda_fermi) 2539261357 1007408122 5332598 26 Jul 2012 | 14:33:15 UTC 11 Sep 2012 | 20:14:58 UTC In progress --- --- --- SETI@home Enhanced v6.10 (cuda_fermi) 2539261356 1007408081 5332598 26 Jul 2012 | 14:33:15 UTC 11 Sep 2012 | 20:14:58 UTC In progress --- --- --- SETI@home Enhanced v6.10 (cuda_fermi) 2539261355 1007408116 5332598 26 Jul 2012 | 14:33:15 UTC 11 Sep 2012 | 20:14:58 UTC In progress --- --- --- SETI@home Enhanced v6.10 (cuda_fermi) 2539261354 1007408162 5332598 26 Jul 2012 | 14:33:15 UTC 11 Sep 2012 | 20:14:58 UTC In progress --- --- --- SETI@home Enhanced v6.10 (cuda_fermi) 2539261353 1007408144 5332598 26 Jul 2012 | 14:33:15 UTC 11 Sep 2012 | 20:14:58 UTC In progress --- --- --- SETI@home Enhanced v6.10 (cuda_fermi) 2539261352 1007408138 5332598 26 Jul 2012 | 14:33:15 UTC 11 Sep 2012 | 20:14:58 UTC In progress --- --- --- SETI@home Enhanced v6.10 (cuda_fermi) 2539261351 1007408132 5332598 26 Jul 2012 | 14:33:15 UTC 11 Sep 2012 | 20:14:58 UTC In progress --- --- --- SETI@home Enhanced v6.10 (cuda_fermi) 2539261350 1007408120 5332598 26 Jul 2012 | 14:33:15 UTC 11 Sep 2012 | 20:14:58 UTC In progress --- --- --- SETI@home Enhanced v6.10 (cuda_fermi) 2539261349 1007408102 5332598 26 Jul 2012 | 14:33:15 UTC 11 Sep 2012 | 20:14:58 UTC In progress --- --- --- SETI@home Enhanced v6.10 (cuda_fermi) 2539261348 1007408096 5332598 26 Jul 2012 | 14:33:15 UTC 11 Sep 2012 | 20:14:58 UTC In progress --- --- --- SETI@home Enhanced v6.10 (cuda_fermi) 2539261347 1007408084 5332598 26 Jul 2012 | 14:33:15 UTC 11 Sep 2012 | 20:14:58 UTC In progress --- --- --- SETI@home Enhanced v6.10 (cuda_fermi) 2539261344 1035105390 5332598 26 Jul 2012 | 14:33:15 UTC 10 Sep 2012 | 13:37:58 UTC In progress --- --- --- SETI@home Enhanced v6.10 (cuda_fermi) 2539261341 1035058829 5332598 26 Jul 2012 | 14:33:15 UTC 10 Sep 2012 | 23:44:19 UTC In progress --- --- --- SETI@home Enhanced v6.10 (cuda_fermi) Next 20 State: All (147) • In progress (63) • Pending (70) • Valid (12) • Invalid (0) • Error (2) Application: All (147) • Astropulse v505 (0) • AstroPulse v6 (0) • SETI@home Enhanced (147) • SETI@home v7 (0) Sorry about the lose of formatting! Notice the "In Progress" is now showing 63 since I've finished with and turned in the 8 W/Us that I knew about. I've been processing S@H since shortly after its inception and have never seen this happen before. Thanks for helping me out with this problem. Dave |

Then these are likely what we refer to as "ghost" workunits, and they happen more frequently than you'd imagine. They are workunits that the server thinks it successfully sent to your computer but your computer never received. There are two ways to solve this problem. You can simply let the workunits timeout and get sent to someone else. Or you can set your computer(s) for No New Tasks, let them finish up their work, then detach and re-attach to the project. |

Or do nothing and wait for the project to resend them after the next scheduler contact. At that point the discrepancy will show up, the project server showing the computer having that many tasks, the computer showing it has none of them, so the project resends them. (Forgot that that option is still on, C.? ;-)) |

OK. Maybe I'd really like to remove the "ghost" W/Us after all so those waiting can get their credit asap. I've been looking at the "Reset Project" button in my BOINC Mgr. Does that clear out everything so all my statistics are lost or does it leave them in tact? They would be nice to retain. Also, if I "Remove" S@H from my BOINC Mgr and reattach to it, will I retain my stats? Also, another question comes to mind. I cannot find my TeamSkare anywhere on the system when I attach to a new project. So the new projects do not participate in my team effort. I must be missing something or has my team expired and needs to be reestablished? Thanks again! Dave |

Also, if I "Remove" S@H from my BOINC Mgr and reattach to it, will I retain my stats? There should be no need for you to do either. Simply hit the "update" button while S@H is highlighted on your projects tab, and the project should recognize the WU's you're short and start resending them 20 at a time. I'm sure you've noticed that all the missing units were sent as one group. This happens when your rig's communication times out after trying to establish a scheduler request. Also, another question comes to mind. I cannot find my TeamSkare anywhere on the system when I attach to a new project. So the new projects do not participate in my team effort. I must be missing something or has my team expired and needs to be reestablished? Teams have to be created at each project. Since I'vre never created a team, though, I can't tell you the process. |

Set up your team through http://boinc.berkeley.edu/teams/ and it'll be imported here and at any of the other projects in the next 24-48 hours. |

Thanks Gatekeeper! I hit "Update" this morning and a few of those ghost units began to show up. They were mostly short, less than 2m each, but several have already completed and returned. Looks like more server problems at the moment so I'll just wait it out. I'll get to the team issue later. Thanks again! Dave |
