If it had been me at thirteen, we would probably have gone on a long walk. 7 days at 10+ miles a day.

LOL! I live in fear of a trip like that.

Actually, I most fear some niece picking a Dude Ranch in the middle of Montana. I have had some very bad horse experiences and I have no intention of ever getting on one of those unruly beasts again!!!

I rode a horse when I was 16 with no training, but I was also a halfway decent archer at age 12, lots of Gunsmoke and Robin Hood type movies I guess.

I once road a horse when I was young and it died two weeks later. It was a young horse though. Still don't know if it was my fault. I don't think so...

Well of course it wasn't your fault! You fulfilled the horse's last wish of giving such a wonderful person a ride, and it died very happy. :-D

Thanx:)

I had a fun horse pack trip in Montana one year. We invited a foreign student along that was staying with us. We found out after we got to Montana that he had never seen a horse before. I believe it was a life changing experience for him as he now owns 2 horses.

You guys really do something wonderful for your nieces and nephews. You and Eric really sound like you're wonderful people. Maybe one day someone can repay all the kindness you show to others by taking you two out for a change! ;-)

I hear they have some of those in Arizona and New Mexico, too. Lots of options for exploring that may not involve horses.

Hey! I don't want my sweet and innocent nieces exploring "dudes" at a dude ranch either!!!

I am sooooo happy to have a boy and not a girl. :-)

You have about a 50/50 chance of having a daughter next time around. Here's hoping!!!

I got 3 girls, what are the odds...I really hoped for my last one to be a boy but I'm glad already that she's healthy.

I have NO children (that I know of...), but I have 4 nieces and a nephew. They are all adults now, but I had a hand in raising all of them. No nut-cases, mass-murderers, or politicians in the bunch (but one is now a lawyer....).

Message 1267506 - Posted: 4 Aug 2012, 13:21:43 UTC

Years ago Sheila and I went for a meal in the Magic Kingdom (big mistake). We were on the carousel going around, and was the only diners. While eating we got plagued by a range of dressed up Disney Characters, especially the Chipmumks. There was kids about that wanted to chat and cuddle these characters, but, as we were the only paying guests, the children were getting short shrift (being told to go away).

It wasn't until I exploded and told them in no uncertain terms we wanted to be left alone that the hint finally dropped.
It's good to be back amongst friends and colleagues
