I think it's a good indication.

Do you think this was a racially motivated hate crime?

71 year old white guy shoots two young innocent black children

Why do you think it's not ALL OVER THE NEWS?

either you've linked into the wrong report or you comment is mistaken...

Innocent? Waving a hand gun at customers? Sorry friend, there's no racism there, it's just 2 "crims" getting their just rewards.

Your Kidding right? You did read the link you posted right? The man shot at two adult male robbers both brandishing a weapon. Yes one was a bat, Ever get hit in the head with one? I have on a back swing when I was catching one day. Hurts like hell even with a mask on.

Maybe because the gun was used correctly to stop a crime?

What if there had been no security video?

Well then, I guess it depends how you report the news, eh?

There were still witnesses.

His comment is racially instigating. Nothing more than an Al Sharpton proxy.

Gun carrying man ends stabbing spree at grocery store
It's a good thing that man was able to legally buy and carry his gun.

DHS-funded video gives tips to survive a shooter (not related to above story)

I wonder if they sell mops at that store. I just see that as another means of stopping the knife brandishing individual. a couple of people with mop handles are just as effective without the possibility of having his family sue for wrongful death

If your the average Joe going against even someone with a modest skill using a knife the mop man is going to get cut bad. I have a bowie knife that would block a mop handle, Now slide that blade down the handle and you cut fingers and arm tissue.

Now someone skilled at stick, Cane or quarter staff will eat the knive wielder alive.

Lets be real here. By its very nature an edged weapon is intimidating to most folks. Why do you think most soldiers in modern wars dont like hand to hand combat.

Aye. So much senseless violence all around the world. I dislike watching the news as 95% of all the stories are negative in nature, and are hyped over the most tear-jerking positive story.

Same here. I miss our newscasters of old, especially "News at Ten". All the presenters often finished the 30 minute broadcast with a touch of good news or some funny events. It used to take the edge off the bad stuff.

Shame that our "modern" broadcasters only seem to go for "sensationalism".

You meant "ratings" not "sensationalism" as ratings translates into $$$ for the shareholders, as required by the fiduciary duty.

Not an excuse, a required by law. Yes it sucks, but that is what a fiduciary duty -- er Public Corporation, is all about.

Ah - so if a broadcaster sponsors a mass killing in order to get an exclusive, they are simply fulfilling their fiduciary duty. An interesting reading of things there.

Of course if the killer in that scenario were found guilty of murder, then the corporation (since they are people too) would be subject to a death penalty.

A lot of "news" programs pay sources for information, not all of it legal to obtain.

Are you drawing a distinction between 'news gathering' -- some of which may not be legal, and 'news creation'?

Gary, an example fiduciary duty to the share holders? "Standard Chartered, motivated by the millions of dollars it reaped in fees, schemed with the Iranian government to launder $250 billion, New York's banking regulator said." Money at any cost?

Yes, but you are supposed to be smart enough not to document it!
