Hello world !

I wonder a bit about search for radio signals, if this makes really sense ?
What if the extraterrestrials communicate in sign-language ? Do they then use
radio-signals for interstellar communications ? I guess, that there are then other different signals than radio-signals ?!

For feedback thank you.

Regards.

If ET is spacefaring or at least at our level of development it is most likely that they use some form of electromagnetic devices for beyond visual range communication. While it is possible that they have perfected some other form of device for that purpose most scientists agree that radio waves have the best properties for long range transmission.

ET doesn't necessarily have to be able to hear to actually send out radio waves. We can't hear them either unless they are retrieved by a receiving device and translated into something we can hear. ET coud just as easily convert the radio waves into light flashes or othee means or perception otherwise radio waves are just radio waves

What nice stuff to be able to see posted here.

I discussed this with a member of my family today.

I mentioned that there was broadcast a signal from earth into space a couple of years ago.

If I am not wrong, the Arecibo Radio Telescope was being used for this and the year this event took place probably was back in 1973.

The transmission was broadcast in the direction of the globular star cluster M13, which is located in the constellation Hercules. The signal will need some 10,000-20,000 years for it to travel each way, so there is no need waiting for a response.

A receiver of our message would probably not interpret our message or signal as a gaussian (either one or maybe several), which really returns me back to the WOW signal. What an analogy! I guess we are not able to understand E.T.'s message and the same may go the opposite way around as well.

So, in the end, while the numbers may be plainly visible for us to see, if part of the signal is either a spike, gaussian, pulse, or triplet - the contents or meaning of such a signal would most likely be impossible for us to comprehend and understand. We are just as far as before - the only thing is that we know that E.T. most likely do exist.

Hello Musicplayer !

Nice to read your posting of today.

:o) ( is an emoticon a radio-signal too ? - assumed there is no beep ... )

You said, you discussed it with a family-member ... is he/she deaf ?

If yes, greet him/her from me !

See you soon.
Regards.

No deaf ears here when it comes to my parents. Rather the opposite.

Still you may be able to encounter or catch upon pitched (or even high-pitched) radio signals.

See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pitch_detection_algorithm for more on this.

Hello to all who replied, thank you !

It looks then - seen more from general view - that signals are measured by frequencies. Also mostly frequencies, with which we "listen" or we cannot "hear" - because some frequencies are too high.

But the field of visual signals remains more "unheard".

In case, when ET's are signing in sign-language in some stellar system around the corner, there are no radio signals ... or else frequencies. Why is the research of frequencies "at public ear" ? Yes, don't forget that you are "ear-bound" - when the phone rings - you pick up the phone at once ... means again you are p-e-r-f-o-r-m-e-d by hearing ! Deafs are performed by watching (not all ...)

Would mean, we need to build some optical systems, who scan after "movements" on some spot in our or outer galaxy. Such optical system measuring with a damn-high resolution would only be possible with laser ? ( And would devour up much electricity ... ) - soon no problem, when fusion-energy works. But then we would need algorithms, who recognize movements as speech or as living forms of beings. Enough puzzle to be solved ...

we are actually looking for microwave signals at a logical frequency for interstellar communication--one of the absorption lines of hydrogen.

The first picture is apparently an unedited picture, visible on one single frame only (video camera capture).
The camera was probably pointed upwards across the sky.

And I missed the second one when I browsed my files yesterday evening.

But watch closer, it is in front of the tower, but definitely behind the trees to the right.

The two pictures are not from the same point of time, however, probably different days.

And it is not from here, that is my best guess.

And welcome to samspade. At times new ideas are a needed refreshment.

Hello !

sorry for delay.

But what project is that ? your project with microwave-signals ?

Is this project available at berkeley ?

Under which name ?

Thank you for reply.

I have not been able to get any computers use for SETI@Home because I lost my home some time ago. My wife did not want me anymore in the house so she kicked me out. I traveled around looking for work with some and very little success. I had been living in my car from time to time because I had no where to live. Finally I have place staying with my uncle for a while until I get a job again, and get back into my radio science research.

I wasn't aware that there is proof that sub-space exists anywhere besides Si- Fi TV shows and movies. But of course you were joking.
