radio signals - do they make sense ?

Hello world !

I wonder a bit about search for radio signals, if this makes really sense ?
What if the extraterrestrials communicate in sign-language ? Do they then use
radio-signals for interstellar communications ? I guess, that there are then other different signals than radio-signals ?!

If ET is spacefaring or at least at our level of development it is most likely that they use some form of electromagnetic devices for beyond visual range communication. While it is possible that they have perfected some other form of device for that purpose most scientists agree that radio waves have the best properties for long range transmission.

ET doesn't necessarily have to be able to hear to actually send out radio waves. We can't hear them either unless they are retrieved by a receiving device and translated into something we can hear. ET coud just as easily convert the radio waves into light flashes or othee means or perception otherwise radio waves are just radio waves

It looks then - seen more from general view - that signals are measured by frequencies. Also mostly frequencies, with which we "listen" or we cannot "hear" - because some frequencies are too high.

But the field of visual signals remains more "unheard".

In case, when ET's are signing in sign-language in some stellar system around the corner, there are no radio signals ... or else frequencies. Why is the research of frequencies "at public ear" ? Yes, don't forget that you are "ear-bound" - when the phone rings - you pick up the phone at once ... means again you are p-e-r-f-o-r-m-e-d by hearing ! Deafs are performed by watching (not all ...)

Would mean, we need to build some optical systems, who scan after "movements" on some spot in our or outer galaxy. Such optical system measuring with a damn-high resolution would only be possible with laser ? ( And would devour up much electricity ... ) - soon no problem, when fusion-energy works. But then we would need algorithms, who recognize movements as speech or as living forms of beings. Enough puzzle to be solved ...

we are actually looking for microwave signals at a logical frequency for interstellar communication--one of the absorption lines of hydrogen.

I have not been able to get any computers use for SETI@Home because I lost my home some time ago. My wife did not want me anymore in the house so she kicked me out. I traveled around looking for work with some and very little success. I had been living in my car from time to time because I had no where to live. Finally I have place staying with my uncle for a while until I get a job again, and get back into my radio science research.
