Will this file be re-sent to me or is it lost forever? It is listed in my on my tasks panel with a deadline of 08/09/2012 and a status of "download failed".

Redownload it with your favourite download program, and copy it across and overwrite the file in your project folder, the url is:

http://boinc2.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah/download_fanout/168/ap_24se10ae_B2_P0_00208_20120715_00996.wu

Shut down Boinc, and edit your client_state.xml with Notepad, you need to make the file_info section and the result section look like this (this is from one of my Wu's), making sure you remove any extra lines:

<file_info>
<name>ap_12au10ae_B4_P1_00106_20120708_32285.wu</name>
<nbytes>8392047.000000</nbytes>
<max_nbytes>0.000000</max_nbytes>
<md5_cksum>7014d036a8fd9c565f6289d4cde9b2aa</md5_cksum>
<status>0</status>
<url>http://boinc2.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah/download_fanout/34c/ap_12au10ae_B4_P1_00106_20120708_32285.wu</url>
</file_info>

<result>
<name>ap_12au10ae_B4_P1_00106_20120708_32285.wu_2</name>
<final_cpu_time>0.000000</final_cpu_time>
<final_elapsed_time>0.000000</final_elapsed_time>
<exit_status>0</exit_status>
<state>2</state>
<platform>windows_intelx86</platform>
<version_num>601</version_num>
<wu_name>ap_12au10ae_B4_P1_00106_20120708_32285.wu</wu_name>
<report_deadline>1344122838.000000</report_deadline>
<received_time>1341963238.359362</received_time>
<file_ref>
<file_name>ap_12au10ae_B4_P1_00106_20120708_32285.wu_2_0</file_name>
<open_name>pulse.out</open_name>
</file_ref>
</result>

Alternately, once you're downloaded and overwriten the Wu file, just snip the two file_info sections from the client_state.xml, save, and restart Boinc, and get the Wu resent,

Claggy - Thanks for the advice, but it was to no avail. Power went out and unbeknowest to me, my not being at home at the time, my wife powered up my machine. When I got home the tasks had already reported back to the server. But, thanks anyway. Lesson learned - NEVER LET YOUR WIFE TOUCH YOUR MACHINE WITHOUT YOUR KNOWLEDGE!!

Rule No.1: Never let a spouse touch your things without full and proper instructions on their use and all precautions that may avail*.

*If in doubt touch nothing.

OTOH that way your machine was earlier up and crunching and for the project it really doesn't matter wether you or somebody else redownloads this file.
