Hello! I have problem with installing BOINC 7.0.28. I recently installed MS Visual Studio 2010 and now I can't install BOINC. When BOINC is to begin the installation ( after hitting the next-button on the Catalog-view(still using the default) ), I get a win32 exception from msiexec [4164]. The last BOINC version that I can install is 5.8.16, NO LATER. This only seems to happen on the Windows x86-version. It works fine on my Vista x64. Do someone know the reason? Sincerely Olof Olsson |

Which Windows? Which Windows Installer (MSIExec.exe) version? What if you temporarily uninstall Visual Studio 2010? -- Is this full VS 2010, or the express edition? -- Is it fully updated VS2010? etc. etc. |

It is Windows XP Home SP3, fully updated. The Visual Studio is VS 2010 Professional (complete installation), also fully updated. The version of msiexec is 4.5.6001.22159 Since I am using the VS2010, I have not tested to uninstall it. //Olof |

OK, I asked the BOINC-diddles, they tell me that the minimum requirement is MSIExec 2.0, so your problem is stemming from elsewhere. Can you state the complete error message, please? If all is well, it's stored in Windows Event Viewer. (Administrative Tools->Event Viewer). |

I removed the VS 2010, only to find out that there was an older VS 2008 behind. Unfortunately I have lost the key to the VS2008. So I decided to reformat the drive and do a deep clean of the system since I can feel there is some corrupt settings somewhere. Because there is no error posts in the system logs. Thanks for every input I got. //Olof |
