It isn't free association. I think if a poster has a non obvious link, perhaps a hyperlink to an explanation should be the word. Agree on point one as long as it is done like you suggest, don't really want lots of explanations. Point two have to try to remember that as it is per post!! And I have just discovered that if you untick it then "preview" your reply, it ticks the box agagin!! |

Most people hardly reads 3 posts. +3 to the reading back not to your alleged incomparableness. |

Chris, in North America "kerosene" is a light crude oil distillate, used in lamps and cooking stoves. "Paraffin" is petroleum derived wax, used in candles and for sealing. "Petrol" is used in bad made-for-TV movies to let people know the actor is supposed to be British. And don't get me started on "football". |

I think kerosene is used as jet fuel. Almost. Jet fuel has some anti-freeze added to it. |

I think kerosene is used as jet fuel. Up untill 1995 the US Air Force used JP4 a 50/50 mix of gasoline and kerosene. I have no idea what they now use. I do know that kerosene was added to diesel fuel and fule oil #1 as an antifreeze. [/quote] Old James |

In addition to the anti-freeze, most jet fuel uses anti-bacterial additives, and very small amounts of heavy oils as lubricants. Most jet engines will run on just about anything that is liquid and can burn, but run best and cleanest on light kerosene based fuels. Most western air forces today run JP-8, which is virtually identical to commercial JET-A or NATO F-34. There are funny mixes around, mostly for cold weather (JET-B) and hard to ignite stuff used on-board ships (good old JP-5). All of these are very similar to diesel fuel, and most diesels run very happily on modern jet fuel. JP-6 was used for the XB-70, but hasn't been made for decades. JP-7 is very bizarre stuff developed for aircraft like the SR-71. It is a weird cocktail of light petroleum distillates plus odd chemicals like cesium and triethylborane, and is very hard to ignite. It remains in small scale production today, long after the SR-71 was retired, a fact which keeps the Internet conspiracy theory nutbars hopping. The stuff produced today is used in experimental ramjets, and as rocket fuel. |

Did not Messerschmitt use Paraffin for jet fuel? Keresone? Quite probably. The wax - almost certainly not. BOINC WIKI |

Ok, I can see Fire to Broadside, but then to Barn and Tithe? Julie, maybe we need a seperate discussion thread, so we can discuss our thoughts and not clutter up Gary's so much. It would definetly be a learning thread. Input? Pluto will always be a planet to me. Seti Ambassador Not to late to order an Anni Shirt |
