Shiny new thread, please continue. And if it isn't obvious, say which game your post relates to.

Looks like we've had some negative feedback on Julie's rule change for the Word Link game.

I thought the ~ (tilda) added clarity to some of the posts, and sometimes a little commentray seemed appropriate, especially if the connection to the previous word was not obvious to some of us.

But like I said earlier, it's Julie's thread, I can play by the new rule.

I admit to using the ~ but it felt wrong.

If a word is not an obvious match I google it and have only found one time when I could see no link.

I like the change.

Tilde this. I think the original intent was for compound words, those that are a single entry in the dictionary but are also two individual words, hyphenated or not. I think the intent was to show which word was the one being posted, the other being the previous post. A sort of not only can I post one word, but I got two words in one flourish.

Maybe some examples:

bad
hand > ~full -- full doesn't really flow from hand, even though "handful" (note spelling difference) is a word.

questionable
soup > ~bowl -- bowl only flows through "soup bowl"

acceptable
soup > ~kitchen -- kitchen does flow from soup and "soup kitchen" also

Unfortunately I don't know how to reduce this to a simple rule, if Julie was of a mind to allow it.

The tilde is unnecessary.

In each of your examples the link is obvious, but maybe a little devious.
It is up to the person following to establish their own links between the words, and not be spoon-fed in a given direction. The real art is find a new word that will force the next person into a blind alley.

Yeah, what fun a Pshrink might have reviewing the Word-link threads. Or some of the TLPTPW threads. (8{)

I enjoyed many of the (asides) and (explanations), but I can still enjoy the game without them.

To be fair I would have said the same thing. And why multiple words for the last few posts. Or is this an anti-anti tilde protest?

Edit~ Is every word now going to be googled before a person can play?

I thought it was "WORD" link, single linked words. I may be wrong as I have never seen the "rules". However it is really not a challenge to post more than one word.

Looking glass tree, should have been just Tree, that would have got people thinking and is exactly the point of the game.

Or introduce a "challenge" rule - if you can't see the link challenge the poster to declare their hand, sorry link.

Or simply buy glasses maybe.

So more rules you´ll implement so less users will play.
