The forum software doesn't seem to want to collapse old messages anymore. It also doesn't go to the first new post. You have to keep going to the next page until you see something posted today. Very annoying. |

There are some "live" code updates ongoing to add some experimental features to give easier browsing for mobile devices. Do not adjust your TV set. All the bits will settle as a few more bytes are rearranged in Berkeley... :-) Happy crunchin', Martin (Just following the dev maillist ;-) ) See new freedom: Mageia Linux Take a look for yourself: Linux Format The Future is what We all make IT (GPLv3) |

There are some "live" code updates ongoing to add some experimental features to give easier browsing for mobile devices. Correction: The original request had a greater emphasis on unreliable/intermittent connections, typical of mobile connections. Under similar circumstances, I turned off all sigs and graphics and used the "show last N posts" features to keep things workable. So far... The pagination attempts look rather cumbersome and are proving to be an irksome user interface with too many clicks needed rather than the more simple scrolling... More tweaks needed! It wasn't broken so they fixed it. Go tell Raistmer that, it was at his request that the forum software should get pages instead of "show only post one and the last X amount in the thread". Because his internet is so darn slow that it couldn't do with that feature. Raistmer, on BOINC_Dev wrote: It's impossible to operate with long threads on websites powered with BOINC via SAT or mobile network connections, they just can load to the end. AFAIK it's common practice to split long threads on separate pages. |

... request that the forum software should get pages instead of "show only post one and the last X amount in the thread". Because his internet is so darn slow that it couldn't do with that feature. ... Note the "intermittent" is likely more significant than the "slow". The other issue is that of how big is the bulk of data needed to display a page. Last N posts and paging are both good options if well done. I found the "last N pages" feature to work very well. The present paging is far too cumbersome and requires too many clicks to navigate through. A selection between the two would be a good idea. An even better idea is to offer a streamlined low data sized view for mobile devices and intermittent connections. I'd guess the biggest bulk is from the remote download of signature links... Is there an option to defang remote links? Keep searchin', Martin See new freedom: Mageia Linux Take a look for yourself: Linux Format The Future is what We all make IT (GPLv3) |

Do you mean options such as these. (third group in Community Preferences) I turned off signature display years ago, and never regretted it. Avatars can be a significant contributor to delays on bad links - they would be the next to go. |

Having worked with the change for 2 days I find it awkward at best. I find it odd that mobile devices are becoming the tail that is wagging the dog. After all this is a PC based project! |

So now we need a choice of "Newest Page First" then a choice of "Oldest Post on Page Last" to get the same results as before the "Improvements? |

So now we need a choice of "Newest Page First" then a choice I think what you want can already be done by showing the newest post first. Community preferences How to sort Posts: Oldest first Newest first Highest rated posts first I have no idea what "Highest rated posts first" does or is suppose to do. Like HAL9000 said, the capability was already there. Before the changes, my Community Preferences were set to Show Newest Thread and Newest Post first, Go to First new post in Thread, and show 75 posts per thread. After the changes, the "Show 75 posts per Thread" became "Show 75 posts per page". I have reduced that setting to 40. All the other settings are unchanged, and seem to work fine. YMMV. What now? Forum doesn't jump to the last unread post anymore, I've selected 750 posts per page. It worked until just now... |

What now? Forum doesn't jump to the last unread post anymore, I've selected 750 posts per page. It worked until just now... Yeah, that is what I mentioned in the other thread. EDIT: The work around to fix that is to set 1 post per page. EDIT: It seems this is working correctly now. I think what you want can already be done by showing the newest post first. Once upon a time, these message boards had a system where you could click a + or - under a post (next to the red-x) to show what you thought of a post. People used it to vote up their friends, and vote down everybody else, irrespective of what either group actually wrote. It got switched off. |

I was set up so that the newest unread post was shown when I clicked on a thread. Then I could scroll down to read replies and newer posts. Been doing it that way since "GEnie". Oh well. |

I think what you want can already be done by showing the newest post first. Maybe they could snip that out while they are in there mucking with the works. SETI@home classic workunits: 93,865 CPU time: 863,447 hours Join the [url=http://tinyurl.com/8y46zvu]BP6/VP6 User Group[ |
