Message 1265027 - Posted: 27 Jul 2012, 21:56:49 UTC - in response to Message 1265008.

There is another strange thing visible straight before your eyes.

If you look at one the previous posts, I says Message XXXXX - - Posted: 27 Jul 2012 | XX:XX:XX UTC (- in response to Message YYYYY).

And put your mouse about the document icon, which could show up in a yellowish color. It says "you haven't read this message yet".

Of course, I can click on the web-link for the message and read it individually. But what is the point doing such a thing? The message has been posted in the thread you are visiting and therefore you are supposed to be reading the message when visiting the thread.

My guess is this is something that was originally inherited from before the time of the web, when these message boards were kind of bulletin boards, possibly readable or accessible by some other type of newsreader software.

And now after posting this message, this document icon is gone, it is not visible in the thread anymore.

Been there forever. All the posts in the thread since the last time you read the thread are marked as unread. Hit refresh and since you just read the thread they all reset. Possibly useful if you check active threads on an occasional basis.

AWOL ability to edit the title of a thread you originated.

Anyone know why this was taken away?

It wasn't as I can still do this, on an original post, not on a reply or quote.

I thought that was something only mods can do.

It is convoluted, but normal users have been able to edit the topic of a thread they started.
They just have to post a new message in the thread they authored and then edit that message to get the title option.

Message 1266279 - Posted: 31 Jul 2012, 22:49:11 UTC

I tried reading through this whole ridiculous thread to see if my complaint has been observed, but there's a lot of posts and I don't have time to read through everything.

My default has always been to display the oldest posts first, so the new ones are at the bottom, and if it is a thread that I have read before, it jumps to the first unread post and then I just read from there.

This works for the most part, until I post a reply in that thread, and then the post order changes to newest first. That's annoying. I have never once in my life read a forum thread backwards like that. I grew up learning to read top-to-bottom.

Hit the back button twice. Yes it is annoying.

I can't recall any written language where it is read bottom to top. If some people want to read backwards power to them, but as it has been stated. I don't see why I am forced to see posts in that manor when my settings are set otherwise.
